Its very important to link M&E to your projects through log frames. It will attract funds easily and guide u on how to coordinate activities to achieve goals.

  • It will help to keep the project in check, knowing exactly who is responsible for what, each team member being given a specific role which they take accountability for, hence nothing is overlooked.
Monitoring involves collecting the specific data required for the project and storing it safely in a database and the data can be retrieved whenever it is required. This enable the project manager to give a report or project status to the stakeholders whenever it is required as the information is on hand.
Evaluating also enables to track the goals of the project and comparing them with the results which are actually being achieved. If there are any deviations, impediments or something out if the norm this has to be reported on.
It is also important to take note of any lessons learnt, this is vital for continuous learning amd improvement bin the future projects. For example mistakes done in the past can not be repeated in the next project so ways to minimize or eradicate such mistakes are formulated

  • It will also ensure that there is available data which can be used to inform decision making, measure the level of impact and track progress.

  • M and E is an essential part of all the stages of a project cycle from initiation,Planning,Execution,Monitoring and Closure
1.At the initiation stage use of data from previous programs helps in identification of gaps for the proposed program
the development of a logframe with clear inputs, outputs ,outcomes and goals will come in handy in monitoring all program activities

2.At Planning stage there is need for baseline data (an M and E role) that will help us evaluate the project at the different stages (midterm and endterm).
3.At the execution stage of a program implementation monitoring will be incoorporated -here we look at targets against achievements ,proper use of resources and also monitoring for the risks and assumptions made during the development of the logframe. Here we also capture stories of change such as lessons learnt, best practises and case studies.
4.At close out-There is endterm evaluation and capturing of more stories of change .
