  • I have really learnt a lot in regards to processes of designing the data collection tool, the questions to have in mind, and the process of validating the actual tool before use. I have also been able to understand the concept of metadata; a concept I have never explicitly comprehended. Maybe a question; How many questions should one data collection tool have? This is because of the tools are so long that the respondent can take more than two hours responding to the questions?

  • I totally agree with you. The logframe is mother of everything. All other information about the project including what to put as questions are derived from the logframe.

  • And also document reviews

  • Participant Tracking Form. This is a versatile type of tool that collects data on the people who participate in a project . It can be used to capture what they are saying, and how they are feeling about the project.

Questionnaire. This type of tool is a questionnaire that gathers data from participants on various topics. It can be used to get information about the project goals, participants’ feelings, and thoughts about the project, or any other questions you have.

Observation, one of the best ways to collect data on human beings behaviors and patterns, is a technique that is used by researchers to get information about people’s behaviors without asking them directly. By watching and recording people as they work, you are able to learn a great deal about how they interact with each other and with the environment.

Focus Group. A focus group is a group of people who are chosen to discuss table topics as directed by the group's moderator. Participants in a focus group are typically selected based on their interest and knowledge about the topic. This allows the moderator to get a variety of perspectives on the same topic, which can help improve the accuracy of the research findings.

Survey. A survey is a tool that is used to collect data from individuals who have not been chosen for any other reason than that they may be able to provide information that is useful for a study. Surveys can be used to collect data about any topic, and are often the most common type of research tool.

Interviews. An interview is a conversation with a person who has been chosen for one specific purpose - in this case, to discuss a particular topic in a more focused direction and in a more formal expert way.

  • This a very important skill, I am excited to learn about this.

  • Yes monitoring and evaluation are good for projects assessment

  • It is really important to protect the people who help us with information about themselves.

  • Step 1: Identify Goals and Performers.
    Step 2: Create Investigative Questions.
Step 3: Develop a Data Collection Plan.
Step 4: Create Data Collection Instruments.
    Step 5: Collect Data.
Step 6: Analyze Data and Identify Gaps.
Step 7: Summarize Findings & Prioritize Actions.

  • According to my understanding, Data collection tools refer to the devices/instruments used to collect data.
Examples of the tools are, Interviews, Observation, Surveys or Questionnaires, Focus groups and Document review.

  • Truly, in creating a data collection tool, I have noticed that some organisations including mine, make the mistake of requiring too much information. Thus, making the tool an exhausting task.

  • I believe a questionnaire is a data collection tool for Surveys.

  • In creating data collection tools, it is so important to consider and decide on who will fill/complete the form, and also their level of education. This will help in getting correct and valid data.

  • Collection of data is core to project management in rhe area of monitoring and evaluation because date show us trends. It's a means of communication during the project and tells us if we are actually going to hit our target.
It becomes imperative to come up with a strong design to gather data needed to give us the information we need to achieve our aim in carrying out the project.

  • I think at this level, it's data science, so this form doesn't have to be printed. It can be built as an app on the phone that can automatically give the result later.

  • Creating data collection tools will be specific for the types of indicators. Quantitative and Qualitative data are collected using different data collection methods. Participant tracking form is a vital tool for measuring indicators, and certain features are to be abided with: What? Who? How often? By whom? Can we do it?
There are six important steps to be considered when creating data collection tools: Understand your indicator, Decide which information to record, Decide how your form will be filled in, Create your form, Test your form and Revise your form.

  • Data collection tools should be verified and tested before they are used for data collection.
Roles and responsibilities should be allocated depending on team members' areas of expertise.

  • The method of data collection is important to choose correctly for effective and credible data to be collected.
In my quality management system, this is a team project of documents review is more effective for essential data.
Interviews and observation is easy since the project is with the proximity of the workplace.

  • Good morning, good afternoon, good night colleagues. I found that data collection is the basis of monitoring and evaluation, so we must develop a good collection capacity in order to develop the ability to analyze

  • in Creating collection tool , There are several data collection tools which are applied according to the type of the data needed; qualitative or quantitative. The method of collecting information in each collection tool is different from the other depending on several factors which are but not limited to the cost, expertise, location, ease of use etc. NB; 1. Survey: This is the most common data collection tool used in business and social research. It is a question-and-answer survey where respondents are asked to provide their opinions on a certain topic or subject.

    1. Registers: A register is an excellent method for collecting qualitative data because it allows you to collect data in an unobtrusive way. You can also use a diary to explore patterns and emerge insights that you might not have been able to capture in other ways.

    2. Focus Groups: A focus group is a great way to collect quantitative data because it allows respondents to express their opinions on a variety of topics in an open and informal setting.

    3. Interviews: An interview is a great way to collect qualitative data because it allows you to get unstructured and in-depth information from a respondent.

    4. Analysis of Primary Data: This is the most common method for analyzing quantitative data, and it involves using statistical methods to analyze the data collected from primary sources.

It is also good to focus on essential data. This will cut off extra time and resources that may go into collecting data or information that is not relevant to the indicator.

  • These questions to pinpoint where you data management strategy is strong and where it may need additional resources:

    1. How often do you review you database to look for errors or incomplete records?
    2. Who has access to sensitive customer information? How do you control that access?
    3. How many separate database do you use to hold and analyse customer Data?
    4. What is the single identifier that helps you link all customer data? Is this outmaoutsmarted?
    5. Do you user third-part address- verification service?
How much time does it take between a customer interacting with you brand and it being recorded?
    6. How much time does it take between recording an engagement and acting on that engagement?
8.Do you have a single person in change of data management? Who is it? Who could it be?
    7. Do you have a process or platform that enables data sharing across your organizations?
    8. What is your biggest barrier to achieving a single customer view?

  • Data collection is a methodical process of gathering and analyzing specific information to proffer solutions to relevant questions and evaluate the results. It focuses on finding out all there is to a particular subject matter. Data is collected to be further subjected to hypothesis testing which seeks to explain a phenomenon.

Hypothesis testing eliminates assumptions while making a proposition from the basis of reason.

  • This is really insightful

  • Understanding the goal of your research What do you want to achieve? Is it just descriptive or need further explanation using inferential statistics? Defining your goals clearly will help you to pick the right data collections method. Know your data sources specifically Knowing your data source is not only about who, what, and where your it.
