  • Data management questions are playing a vital role in data collection methods because they could help the data collector or surveyor clearly and critically know the data to use.

  • Data Management is a vital component as it describes roles and responsibilities of various players as well as how the data generated can be used. An example is the COVID-19 Surveillance project that monitors trends of COVID-19 pandemic to inform policy on interventions. The data for all confirmed COVID-19 cases is collected in the testing labs by the lab technicians by using the case-based surveillance forms. This data is entered into an excel spreadsheet by data entry clerks who then submit the data to the HMIS officer for cleaning and analysis. The analyzed data is then shared to the donor community, Public Health Institute of Malawi to decide on what interventions can be deployed in order to control the pandemic in the country.

  • The data flow map is very helpful in assigning roles and establishing responsibilities. Very insightful this module

  • Data management is another step which every organization or individual wishing to have data.
In this data management there are various steps namely; data collection, data entry and collation, data analysis, verification and storage and lastly data use.

    1. Data collection- in this step date is collected from the indented population type using data collection methods and data collection tools.
    2. Data entry and collation- after the data is collected, it is entered into data system and similar data grouped (collation).
    3. Data analysis, verification and storage-the data in the database is analyzed and verified if its correct data. Data is then stored (archiving) for either future refence or any other use.
    4. Data use- this is where we have creation of reports, communicating the outcomes to the community and also making of project management decisions.
  • How often do you review your database to look for errors or incomplete records?
who has access to sensitive customer information?

  • Hello how are you

  • Data management is a process of collecting, storing, organizing, accessing, analyzing and using data.
When managing data there are steps or processess to follow, being data collection, data entry, data analysis Verification and storage, Data Use.

    Before one continues to follow this steps , they are data management questions that need to considered;

    • what are the responsibilities_ tasks that will need to be considered.
*Who are the people who will take on these responsibilities and what roles?

These questions helps the organisation know exactly what needs to be done , by who and in how long.It also helps them know who will use this data so that they can chose the right tools that they can understand.

  • How to provide training on the why

  • Wow this is the greatest part that I have been yearning to learn, after the raw data that probable are meaningless gotten from the field, they go through data management where its entered into the system, processes and analyzed for decision making, what a break through! thank you philanthropy University you have done the greatest thing ever now I can set my team at ease, no more getting confused on who is in charge of data collection, data entry, analysis and use

  • In the same way, a data management process starts by bringing in raw materials: data collected from the project. As the data travels through the rest of the process it is organized, stored, analyzed and, finally, transformed into useful products, such as reports and decisions.

  • Many organizations have found ways to collect massive amounts of data. Unfortunately, the ability to collect data far exceeds the capacity of most organizations to process, manage and analyze the data. Too much data, especially unstructured data, results in data lakes that take up space without contributing in any way to your company's bottom line. To make matters worse, the longer data sits unmanaged, the less valuable it becomes.
to better manage this data, what recommendation do you make to us.

  • once you collect accurate data and enter it into the base accurately, the remaining tasks will be smooth

  • Depending on the budget, i would recommend engaging research professionals when it comes to data collection and analysis for quality purposes. However, if there are budgetary constraints intensive training is required for the team members who will be involved.

  • How much time should an organization take between the process of data collection to the final stage of evaluation

  • Data management is a critical aspect of planning for M&E. It entails the points in which data is collected, entered, collated, analyzed, stored and used. It also identifies roles and responsibilities at every level of project monitoring and evaluation.

  • The floe map makes you understand everything that goes through the project. Visuals are always better for understanding

  • I would like to learn more about data storage, data collation and data analysis and reporting.

  • Very insightful. tell us more about data storage and collation.

  • I agree. Engaging consultants is the best way to go when it comes to data analysis

  • some questions that can arise during data management includes who should handle data and who should not. most times it is very important to determine how the data will be managed if not the whole work from planning till now will be a waste of time

  • To plan tehr data collection abd managenent its important to know are team and training everyone to do the task that he/she needs to do.

  • Hi!
    How's it going ?

  • More details bon how efficient can data be managed?

  • Data management helps to ensure the right people get the information

  • Data management questions are very crucial for any project cycle. Often, the flow of data collected by field staff is very high. So managing data accuracy will be affected. Privacy and security are big questions in managing data.

  • Some of our roles that we have within the project include the monitoring and
evaluation team lead who is the manager, we have our project staff, we have our peer
educators who collect this data, we have our partners and government, we also have
our donors within the project. We make sure that people understand their roles
in the projects using data in the following ways. One we make sure that they
have an understanding of the monitoring and evaluation plan and they understand
the guidance on how to use data. Two, we make sure that they understand that this
data represents human beings and therefore data needs to be treated with
respect. Thirdly is we motivate our staff to go
through regular training within the life of the project on data use and how to
    handle it.

  • Yes monitoring and evaluation are good for projects assessment

  • Can you describe an effective data management plan?
What is the key to ensuring a company is compliant with all laws and regulations?
Can you share an effective approach to operating with a large amount of data?
What challenges are you looking for in this data manager position?

  • Data Management questions should align with the overall project Monitoring and Evaluation plan. These questions can be quantitative or qualitative and are often collated through the data management processes.

  • The Data flow map is the backbone of data management process.
It clears the roles and the responsibility of each member.
This is important to account for the information in the project.

  • The Data flow map reveal the manpower shortage in advance before the information is messed up in the process of the project hence jeopardizing the whole project.

  • Recognizing the use and who will use the data is key to complete the data management process.

  • The Data collection points is the fundamental to construction of data flow map.
When these data collection points are identified, the data use can easily be identified and recorded on top.

  • Who analyse and who send the data must be efficient enough to reach the quarterly report benchmark.

  • Data flow plan is really a wonderful presentation on how data moves from one person to another.
I hope on creating a good one for my project.

  • Roles and responsibilities in data management are really an area of importance. We've been faced with non functioning roles because no one feel assigned to do them.
But with what I've learnt so far in this course, positive change is certain.

  • Collection of data and how to use it remains key in project management. Because data represents human being most of the time, it becomes imperative to handle it with care.
Who collects data, who inputs it into the system, who process them and who stores them should be clearly stated and educated on the need to handle them as a sensitive material as these data represents the future of the project.

  • Data Management is the practice of collecting, organizing, protecting and storing an organization's data so it can be analyzed for decision making of an organization.

  • very important and guiding topic. helpful in managing the data flow and assign responsibilities in order to follow up the where the data and reporting

  • It helps to track the progress of the project

    1. It helps to assess the impact of the project to the beneficiaries, community and other stakeholders
3)It helps to detect the mistakes and enable to correct them before they become so worse,
    2. It helps to make comparisons between what is being implemented/achieved and what have been planned for effective and efficient resources utilization as well as time management.
  • as we all know this data use step is really important for the project reference. but i would like to know if it is not also important that the project manager has data processing skills to analyse the data sent to him.

  • This topic was wonderful

  • Interesting module. I wish more content is available on data verification.

  • I think this depends on the time span of the project being implemented it self.

  • Our team is quite small. It is handling a small amount of data but in my head, I get the picture on hwho w might need with time

  • J'aimerais bien savoir puisqu'il est question de gestion de données, est-ce qu'il est possible de créer une entreprise spécialisée en S&E et gestion de données ?

  • Is it skeletal to have just 2 data collection tool at the bottom, instead of 3 or more data collection tools at the bottom of the data flow chat?

  • DATA MANAGEMENT.
This covers all the processes for collecting, storing, organizing, accessing, analyzing and using data.
In collection of data several data collection tools and methods of collecting data like through interviews, surveys, focusing groups and others.

Once data have been collected, it is fed into the system by the person who has been tasked for that role. This is where he/she enter and collate data depending on the question raised during collection of data.

A project has a central place of storing its data for future use also known as archiving.

A SUMMARY OF DATA MANAGEMENT PROCESS.
Data collection-Data entry and collation-Data analysis, verification and storage-Data use.

  • I find it important for people who are new to program management to do data flow mapping. This mechanism lays out the roles, responsibilities, and documents required to collect data for the project's operations and management. Since the program team knows their roles, it would be less of a concern to program managers. It could even ease the tasks of program managers in ensuring that M&E is well conducted. Hence, it is essential if new program managers have data flow maps prepared.

  • As practice of collecting, keeping, and using data securely, efficiently, and cost-effectively, the goal of data management is to help people, organizations, and connected things optimize the use of data. This is done within the bounds of policy and regulation so that they can make decisions and take actions which are in the best interest of the organization. Thus, data management questions provide a guidance on how this process will be carried out and the assignment of roles for the project or program success.

  • In designing or creating data collection tools it best to carefully pick from many options as keeping tabs on only one method may affect the nature and type of data that will be collected and also not be able to track certain indicators optimally.
The tool should focus on relevant data that clear tells on the indicator being measured.

  • Data management is the practice of managing the data by different processes such as storing, maintaining, protecting, organizing, and processing the data retrieved by an organization from various sources safely and securely with utmost efficiency.

  • The main aim of data management is to reduce the risks for the organization related to data processing and provide accurate data to Donors, Government institution, Directors, M & E Managers and organization. Data management helps in better optimization of data and in turn, helps make better organizational-related decisions keeping in mind the rules, regulations, and policies of the Organization.

  • organization that does not understand the importance of data management are less likely to make annually reports for donors and partners.

  • Amazing journey

  • You need to ask yourself

    1. What tools will you use for data collection
    2. Which roles are going to be involved
    3. What actions needs to be taken and by who?
    4. Who are the receipts of your data products?
  • How does one do the quality checks?

  • Data management is an important component of M&E Plan. Particularly, the data flow map outline graphically how M&E data will flow from its source up to consumers. It therefore create of condition of data accountability as each actor along the data flow chain is known.

Data management is also crucial for organizational learning and for adaptive management. Through data management and use organization can access historical and present level of performance and accordingly decide on the best course of action.
