  • In data collection you should choose an appropriate data collection method and before decide you should ask the following What, Who, How often, By whom and can we do it.

  • It's like I got confused about this part can someone help please

  • Another goof tool for collecting data is through use of online applications such as KOBO and IDK to collect information from project participants. They allow easy access to saved information and allows integration of vast amount of data. The flipside is that it is limited to people with access to internet.

  • One way to create that are simple to use is to group your indicators to ensure that those indicators to be collected at the same time, by the same person and at the same location are grouped and captured by one tool. Codes should also be used for guidance and simple languages should be used.
For people with low education, training, or language fluency, an illustration can be used or a literate person should help them fill the form.

  • The creation of data collection instruments is a process that can hardly be finished in the plan, because sometimes we create and test instruments and finally we approve them and start the process of granting data. But, for one reason, either the donor or the implementation team finds that there is a need to include some more indicator. Or the assessment itself may lead to the conclusion that one of the method and instrument used do not allow decisions to be taken in full.

  • Data collection tool is a yardstick that is used to collect information for the project to be undertaken. It is therefore important to note that the designing of the tool used to collect data has an effect on the final outcomes of the project. It is through the information collected that monitoring and evaluation will be made possible, thus the design for the data collection tool should be given enough attention, otherwise the whole project will be a failure.

The creation of an effective data collection tool will start by identify the key indicators on the outputs of the project, this means it starts on what exactly do we want to measure. After identifying that, there is then need to identify or decide which information to record and decide how the the data collection tool chosen will be filled. Also, the instruction pertaining the methods of collecting data will then need to be inscribed on a separate page. These instruction are very useful since they act as guide during the process of collecting data, they may indicate who is going to fill in the data collection tool and the codes to be used. The last steps to be taken into consideration include testing the data collection tool and revise it where necessary.

It is important to note that the design of the data collection tool clearly determines the quality of data to be collected.

  • Data is one of the most valuable resources today’s businesses have. The more information you have about your customers, the better you can understand their interests, wants and needs. This enhanced understanding helps you meet and exceed your customers’ expectations and allows you to create messaging and products that appeal to them. Primary data is information obtained directly from the source. You will be the first party to use this exact set of data.

Quantitative data comes in the form of numbers, quantities and values. It describes things in concrete and easily measurable terms. Examples include the number of customers who bought a given product, the rating a customer gave a product out of five stars and the amount of time a visitor spent on your website. Because quantitative data is numeric and measurable, it lends itself well to analytics. When you analyze quantitative data, you may uncover insights that can help you better understand your audience. Because this kind of data deals with numbers, it is very objective and has a reputation for reliability.

  • It is great to know about the methods and tools of data collection. It is really important step in M&E.

  • It is great to know about the methods and tools of data collection. It is really important step in M&E.

  • Creating data collection tools is the most important part of this module. It's created according to indicators as we make grouping.
Grouping indicators can be measured with the some tool if they share the same:
    1- Data collection methods
    2- Source of data
3- collection schedule or frequency; data for this indicator are collected on the same schedule; weekly, monthly, annually.
Creating data collection tools has some important tips:
1- Identify who will use this tool(user).
    2- Focus on essential information.
    3- Collect metadata.
    4- Pre-test your tool.
5- Train Staff to use the tool and include instructions.
One of the most tool is called participant tracking forms.

  • It is great to know about the methods and tools of data collection. It is really important step in M&E.

  • It is fundamental to respond the initial questions when creating data collection tools: who will use it, How often it will be use it, when (set up period of collection) and where? once you have done it you need to define the indicator and this has be well undertood.

  • Insightful module.

  • Participant Tracking From is a good example of a data collection tool used in most projects to monitor the progress of the project.

  • That was a great topic. I have learnt the Data Management process.
Collect, enter analyse, verify store and Data use.(reports, community information, decision making, future use)

  • Creating a data collection tool is very important to get a specific data accurately

  • This topic is very essential. Since M&E is all about collecting data for use by either the companies or there sponsors, data collecting tools are therefore at the core of this topic. They provides opportunity for understanding the right tools for the right data collection.

  • This topic makes a whole lot of sense in M&E. Understanding the basic information in building data tool will help build a good data collection tool as well as a logical framework in M&E.

  • data collection tool is an essental insrument for obtaining data for monitoring and evaluation participant tracking tool is ideal for collecting data from people who participated oin the project . in creating this care must be taken to all rules. also the tool must be trial- tested and corrections made are fed back into the system.. this helps in eliminating possible errors that may accrue as a result of misunderstanding the tool.

  • Understanding the indicators gives the right direction to the type of tool for measurement. Even for students, this topic is very vital.

  • Is there any free online data collection tool?

  • Is there any free online data collection tool?

  • The ability to master the use of these data collection tools will help in the effective implementation of my projects, going forward.

  • This is crucial to thoroughly assess the well-functioning of a project and the possible mistakes made during its implementation

  • Consider who the user of the tool will be. The user is the person who will collect data with the tool. Depending on your project, the user may be a staff member, a volunteer, or a partner.

  • Creating data collection tools is very important. If the project make some mistake in this phase, there will be very problematic for the whole project activities in the field. And also they will not receive the necessary and good information when collection data.

  • Data collection tools are very vital because it helps to get required data for your decision making, with these data making decision will be almost impossible. The availability of these tools makes it easy and efficient to collect data timely and accurately.

  • collecting information need to have good and simple tools

  • Great knowledge to learn over this period. I can confidently prepare Data Mapping Flow

  • Data collection tools refers to forms ,document or guides that help individuals or organizations to collect data.
    Data collection tools :
1}Identify who will use this tool.
    2}Focus on the essential information.
    3}Collect metadata.
    4}Pretest your tool.

  • Choosing an ideal data collection technique requires one to be critical in their thinking so as not to choose a method that will not be appropriate for data collection

  • Interviews: Interviews are probably the most common
tool used in planning, monitoring and evaluation. They
can be carried out with one person at a time (individual
    interviews) or groups of people.

Focus group discussions: Focus group discussions
(FGDs) are facilitated discussions, held with a small
group of people who have specialist knowledge or
    interest in a particular topic.

Observation: At its most simple, observation involves
‘seeing’ things – such as objects, processes,
relationships, events – and formally recording the
information. There are different types of observation.
Structured or direct observation is a process in which
observations are recorded against an agreed checklist.
Expert observation is usually carried out by someone
with specific expertise in an area of work, and involves
the expert observing and recording information on a
subject. Observation may also be carried out as a
participatory exercise. Where this is the case the
intended beneficiaries of a project or programme are
involved in planning an observation exercise,
    observing, and discussing findings.

Photography and video: Photographs and videos show
still or moving images. Photographs can be used on
their own, but are more often accompanied by written
    captions, providing additional information.
