I'm very interested in data analysis. Everything we do these days is data driven. How goods and services are exchanged, how we make choices, how interventions are planned, how healthcare is delivered. I believe it is a gold mine; not just in the returns one would get, but especially in the knowledge that can be excavated from it.
I would like to learn more on how data are analysed and used in writing report on the activities of the project.
I would like to learn more about ( Data Collation, Data Analysis or Verification, Data Storage and Data Use)

Hello everyone,

I would like to learn more about data storage. How data is kept safe and the measures to take in order to keep data safe.
Hello T...form what i have witnesses, data is saved in what is called Transport data Base (TDB which can be a USB or CDR) at the end of the period under review from the data collectors to the M&E who are supposed to analyse and store the data. This will help save the data from the computer that can get corrupt or may crush. Secondly the data from the TDB is transposed into a database where all the data of the organisation are stored. The may then used the share drive or Cloud to ensuring safety and longtime usage.

Hi Faith,
Data analysis is supremely important in M&E I would guess, so your wish to learn more about it is well-founded! Data analysis falls under quantitative and qualitative research, and if you have not yet taken a basic course on these subjects I would highly recommend doing so. Just learning some of the key aspects of statistics can help you to understand your quantitative data, such as descriptions of the data, central tendency and frequency, data dispersion, and even inferential methods where you may begin to generalize your data samples against larger populations! There are excellent resources out there with step-by-step examples and work flows. There are free statistical processing and analysis packages (I Use the program, R - see https://www.r-project.org/. It's FREE and don't be daunted by its massive scope - there are abundant tutorials to teach yourself whatever you need. Give it a try! For qualitative research, there are also plenty of resources online. I highly recommend the books:
- Creswell, J. & Poth, C. (2017). Qualitative Inquiry and Research Design: Choosing Among Five Approaches, Fourth Edition. London: Sage.
- Saldaña, J. (2016). The coding manual for qualitative researchers, Third Edition. London: Sage.
Data analysis can conform to your needs and sharing your concerns and challenges with your fellow philanthropists will open plenty of doors to best practices and 'how tos'. Best of success to you!!
Elizabeth
The comment from Phyllo is very instructive and thank you for the reference. I just want to add my voice to say analysing your data will require that you know your logframe, your indicators and means of verification so that the collected data make sense to you. Otherwise, it will be difficult for you to analyze your data and make informed decision.
I would like to learn ore about data evaluation and quality

I was quite impressed with the data flow map but would like to learn more about data analysis, data quality assessment and draft half-yearly and annual reports
I would like to go deeper into data quality and data analysis. What are the tools used to analyze quantitative and qualitative data and how to create reports with simple (excel) and advanced tools.
I would like to learn more about data quality and data analysis. how analyze qualitative and quantitative data and the tools we can use ..from the simplest (excel) to the more sofisticated ones.

Exactly me too, cause at the end of the day we shall need it.
I will like to learn more on data management and data string softwares
I found difficult in managing the data. For me, it is more strategics work. Tracing error and missing information is always difficult to trace. Further process of cleaning the data is another area which trouble me a lot.

i agree with you, it is crucial to have data analysis in project monitoring and evaluation such that it helps to have a quality flow of data and also it helps in data handling and storage. data storage requires a proper and well analysed data such that it wont be difficult to work with

Hi Chipo
I would suggest you enrol for a basic research course because quantitative and qualitative data analysis use different methods but can both be used in one project. For qualitative research you interpret observation, patterns etc to analyse data. Quantitative research use statistics to analyse data.
