I definitely learned a lot from this module. I certainly believed the myths that you should talk as much about your organization as possible and with facts / statistics. Knowing that these aren't true, I can approach conversations with donors in a more relaxed and casual way as opposed to spitting out facts. I feel as if casual conversation is a better way to make real connections as opposed to constantly thinking about "selling" to someone.
After listening to the professor , i realized that fundraising is not like i thougt before. The seven myths gave me light .
Really impressed and also gained knowledge having listened to the podcast on the seven myths of fundraising.
this course is very useful for New fundraisers
This 7 myths are basic things of fundraiser. It's improve the quality of fundraisers skills.
This course generate examples of donations other than cash that could benefit our organization. Isn't it?
This lesson about the 7 myths in fundraising is a great eye opener to those who do resource Mobilization
Knowing all the 7 myths in fundraising is really important for anyone who wants to master that competence.
I now have a different view regarding fundraising. In my mind I thought it was reserved for a minority and I always thought that only superstars and rich people can make a fundraising a success. In the professor's lecture, I now understand that team effort is pivotal to a good fundraising.
Is there a difference between resource mobilization and fundraising?
I always thought that fundraising was all about money and knowing rich people so now I know it's not the truth.
Fundraising needs good relationship between donors and receivers.
I enjoyed this Module and learning and getting clarification on these 7 myths which i now have truths to help me along my journey.
The most common problem I see it in our relationship with funders is that our relations are just for the money or any benefits. The is no humane relationship
Module 1 was really helpful
Fundraising is the process of soliciting support for a cause.
Seven Myths of fundraising are :
Learned a lot about fundraising.
Was interesting to find out how many myths I believed and others that were applied to me when I expressed that was interested on change my work focus at the NGO. Particularly the ones about knowing rich people and fundraising as a synonym of fundraising money.
I did a special note about the fact of online and "traditional" fundraising and how the keys are also in planning, strategizing and team work. In my opinion this apply to every field, sector and even in everyday processes at the organizations. For me that provides you of a solid base to keep pursuing your organizational aims.
This are very enlighting view of the seven myths. Funtastic
i have have know for quite a while now that these myths about fundraising are untrue. my problem has to do with approaching potential donors. i get all nervous and loose my words. how can i overcome that.
again when it comes to giving back to the donor, what gift would you suggest
From the definition of fundraising- soliciting support for a cause myth number 1 falls out as support can be in kind sometimes. It is not about knowing rich people but developing a wide network to solicit funds from, the bigger the network coverage the great the support. Fundraising is a two way system both parties benefit. Donors should be given information relevant/that captures their interests
The module was really enlightening because l thought raising money hinged on following rich people and l had a bias to fundraising to get money only. the definition of fundraising is a powerful one, it changed my perspective completely. I have learnt a lot.
The module was very revealing to say the least.
Glad to know I don't have to know lots of rich people before I can raise funds.
Same here. Henceforth I'll make sure to establish what the donor stands to benefit and communicate this clearly.
Thanks @ Tom for clearly explaining the 7 myths associated with fundraising and providing insightful advice. The points he mentioned are relevant and applicable to all sorts of fundraising. I specifically loved the idea of reaching out and having good relationship with donors. His experience of visiting one of the donor in hospital and his effort to maintain effective friendship resonates with me.
I found interesting the notion about fundraising not being transactional. For a long time, I personally viewed fundraising as " giving and taking" type of engagement. It was eye opening to see that's not the case as both sides gain something, even if its not tangible.
An issue that we have with our donors is that we do not have strong relationships with them and rarely follow up after a donation is made.
I agree. I learned quite a lot of interesting things from this module on the 7 myths of fundraising.
