Hi colleagues. I am trying to gain experience in M&E and always mention research skills as well as quantitative analysis skills in my cover letters. How do you think what skills, both hard and soft, are essential for a M&E professional? What would be your recommendation for beginners in this field?
I think the essential skills for a m&e professional is to firstly understand his/her project goals. Then it's the goals that will help the person/researcher know what to measure. After knowing what to measure, you develop tools and methods for measurement.
I'd advice to go for courses like planning for monitoring and evaluation, essentials of non profit strategy, from data collection to data use. These courses will better equip you on the necessary skills and knlwledge an M&E professional should possess.
