In Module 2, you learned how to make the ask and thank the donor while reducing anxiety and discomfort with the process of fundraising.
In a discussion post below, please respond to the following questions:
1: What to you is the most anxious or challenging aspect of fundraising, and why?
2: What is one way you have made or plan to make this aspect of fundraising easier in your work?
And if you are not currently working at an organization or have never fundraised before... just imagine that you are about to begin your first day in fundraising at an organization!
After responding, please reply to at least one other learner and respond to their ideas.

1.The most anxious aspect is when you have scheduled time with your donor, upon meeting, he claimed to be in hurry
2.Asking him briefly next time when he will have the time
People are reluctant, not want to give single penny. Make them more comfortable and let them to be a valuable person to your organization. Join them and show them real problem. Reduce your anxiety and be comfortable.

I can relate to this. But i feel most of the work should have been done in the initial letter to schedule a meeting such that the donor will already be endeared to being part of the project.
the most challenging part is when the potential donor knows more than I do and does more of the talking. I'd be embarrassed and may not be able to convince the potential donor any longer
I will research well about the donor and rehearse well with my team before going for such meeting.
I can relate with this well, especially when the donor is not sure the money will be judiciously used. I believe the place of researching about the potential donor and explaining the work done in the past and the impact may convince the donor
The most challenging aspect in fund raising is not being thankful to the donor after ask.And there by not reducing anxiety.
@Course_Operations said in Module 2 Discussion: Making the Ask, Thanking the Donor, Reducing Anxiety:
1: The most anxious or challenging aspect of fundraising is asking for funds but there is always the potential for them to say no, even if the donor as similar ideas like the NGO.
2: No or rejection is a part of life, numerous no's can lead to a potential yes eventually.

Awesome thanks so much for sharing @aimz996 .
I think making the transition during the conversation back to the reason for the meeting. Which would be leading up to the ask.

The most challenging situation is that when a donor asked you that this year is committed with another project.
Personally, i think the most challenging part is the Making the ask especially in terms of asking the donor for a specific amount of money. This is to avoid the donor thinking your are asking too much.

First, a donor (or a potential one) that knows more than you do in some area(s) is not a bad idea and thus should not be embarrassing(after all no one is an island of knowledge). In fact, you can use it to your advantage by asking questions like; what is your take on..., how do you feel about..., Remember the meeting is not just about you pitching, its also about getting to know each other.
In addition to that, i would like to say that for the most part "listen" study your donor while s/he is talking and look for the right moments to chip in. It may take you less than 2Mins to win your donor over. You can also ask for advice in that area s/he seem to know more than you do. this may come like " you seem to know more about..." we would like to have you attend one of our advisory board meetings.

The most challenging aspect of fundraising to me is asking for the financial help. It is easier to discuss the dream and the ways of achieving it than asking for a donation. Sometimes they flow with you and get excited about the vision but then it's just as though the light gets snuffed out when you mention donations.
Based on a few lessons I have had, I would say that one way of making it easuea is by having a rekarelation with the donor. I mean, it's easier to ask your friend for help than a stranger. So get to know the person a little, build relationships, identify common interests before asking.

That infact is very true, one of the write ups made mention of proper research.
Your reply just made it clear to me that I have a lot of research to do. Thank you
For me the most nerve wrecking part is the initial getting into contact with someone. I know it is silly but it is a fear of people rejecting you before they even know what you do.
To get over this fear I have started getting links as to how I can connect with these people. A point of interest that we share, perhaps a mutual acquaintance or even something that I "like" about that person a sort of compliment to them.

You can always turn the situation around and use this to your advantage. Tell them that you look up to them for knowledge and would love the opportunity to learn from them... So by donating you can strengthen your project and your knowledge.

Now that Our faculty Tom Wolf has brought us this far I believe we are good to go, let get out there and fundraise
For me is the Fear of "Not knowing enough, I might be asked a question I can’t answer”... "Not knowing the right way to do it" and "Not knowing exactly what to say".
The most challenging factor I feel while contacting the donor is "the element of mistrust". While working on mega project, we have to deal with multiple stakeholders and state actors. Some time in developing countries, we face a challenge of trust.
In fundraising, the aspect I find challenging most is the actual transition from preliminary discussion to the actual ask.
What I have tried to do so far is start by stating the need of the Organization making sure I give two or more options and asking the donor where he/she or the organization can be of assistance.
To me, the most challenging aspect of fundraising is mentioning the amount needed to the donor. This is because the amount needed is sometimes very huge and without trust, donors might not be able to hand over support if they do not have trust in you.
I have planned to improve on my trust aspects and relationship with donors.

I recommend a more freindly discussion with the donor as this might help break the fear.
Being able to react positively to a not very good response and thanking him or her for little or nothing and the solution is to be always prepared for negative or not very good feedback and aim for another donor immediately.
My anxiety moment has always been dealing with the NO from the donor (What if donor says NO)
Bouncing back from donor's no has been tough and has made it difficult for me to go ask for funds the second time
Basing on this training I have realized that, the NO is the moment (current) and can be YES in a different moment (later) and is the license to attempt next time
My challenges was fear of acceptance because some donors might turn down the request.
To make the work easier i will assemble a team of fundraising expert

The most challenging aspect of fund raising is when you have done all your jobs get the budget and program ready on meeting with the potential donor you hear your project is not in line with our areas of interest therefore we can't fund your project.
It is not encouraging getting rejection from donors
I would want to do my home work by researching my donor very well before I want to schedule a meeting with him/her

One most anxious aspect of fundraising to me is 'asking for a specific amount of money'. In the past, I would shy away from that and just say; any amount is okay. I feel the reason is because I dread taking 'no' for an answer because it makes me feel embarrassed and sometimes makes me feel like I failed.
Going forward, one way I plan to make this aspect of fundraising easier in my work is by changing my perspective and a more positive outlook. Instead of feeling embarrassed, I plan to interpret the answer 'no' as 'not now but come back another time'. I also need to believe that not everyone will say no to my requests, we win some and lose some.

I agree with you. Speaking to a potential donor who is not interested in ones project focus can be discouraging. Like you said, knowing our potential donor's interest will go along way. Donors will be captured if you come to them with a project proposal that is similar to their interests.
On of the most challenging aspect of fund raising for me has been requesting for funds, though I usually feel uneasy about it, notwithstanding i have mastered the process of stating the funds required and discuss the flexibility of how we can access it. Also having a technical meeting after the first introductory meeting is quite advisable as this help the donor have a better understanding of what their funds wold be used for.
In my view fixing an appointment and asking for money is the most challenging aspect of fund raising. I have however planned to approach individuals and organisations who have interest in my work.
Whichever response they give, I will thank them generously.

Congratulations for having mastered the art of asking. Its the most challenging aspect of fundraising. I think getting individuals that have some form of interest in what you are doing will make the endeavour more fruitful.

Hello, good thoughts. I want to remind you however that to make real impact you need more that 500, 1000. We were taught to demand more than your target. This is why you need more donors that has the capacity to pay and they around you, you only need to find them.
Asking for money is the most challenging part of fund raising in my opinion. I have by this course began to think better on how to go about it. I intend to master the art of writing very appealing letter to get the attention of donors and endear them to my mission .
