Hi everyone, I'm Okoh Nelson, a public health practitioner, it's great being here.
In the next few months, I will be using the risk register, issues log and stakeholder Analysis Framework.
With the right amount of planning, implementing and monitoring you have the opportunity to complete a project on time, on budget and with high quality results, instead of ending up with a project that doesn’t fully meet all the KPIs (key performance indicators).
There are so many reasons why a project might fail – setting up unrealistic expectations, poor methodology and requirements, inadequate resources, poor project management, untrained team members and so on. However, these things can be avoided by adopting effective practices and project management techniques which will help to establish a clear understanding of expectations and processes among all the people on board.
We gathered and listed 5 best practices for project implementation, outlining the major phases of managing and discussing the key steps for each one.
Start with a clear project scope Some people (myself included) can get pretty excited when working on a new project and can get carried away with the ideas flow. Although we as a company believe in adapting plans as we go, starting a project without a clear vision can lead to unexpected difficulties. You and your team should invest your time in gathering information, assigning tasks to specific people and having a good overview of your resources. The end result should be a well-rounded project plan with a clear scope, steps, implementation process and a well-defined target. The project scope is the primary deliverable from the planning process and it describes all the aspects of the project. Put everything on a timeline.Prepare to keep planning
As I said above, changes happen all the time. However, you can always have a basic plan for managing these changes. You have to set some expectations on how the team should manage unexpected issues, scope change, risks, quality, communication and so on. Sometimes projects are smooth and easy to manage and sometimes they are a complete nightmare that wakes you up at 3 a.m. and give you bad flashbacks.
On some level, this project PTSD can be avoided by planning for blockers proactively and by ensuring that the project team has a common understanding of how to deal with issues if things go south.
Implement while keeping an eye on the metrics
Once the project has been planned accordingly to its scope and goals, the implementation phase can begin. In theory, since you have already agreed on your project scope and you have a basic backup plan if something doesn’t work, the only thing remaining is to implement your plan and processes efficiently. As a manager, there are a few things you should keep an eye on.
Check the project timeline on a regular basis in order to determine how your team is progressing.
Keep your timeline updated and make sure that you and your team are still focused on the plan. Determine whether the project will be completed within the original effort, cost, and duration estimates. If the situation has changed, you should determine the critical path for continuing and look for ways to accelerate the activities to get you back on track.
Monitor your resources. You should look at the amount of money and time your project has actually consumed and determine whether you have spent more than you have originally estimated, based on the work that has been completed. If so, be proactive, and take smart business decisions that could potentially make the project more effective.
It is also important to look for signs showing that the project may be in trouble. Some of them could be:
Team morale starts to decline.
Deliverable quality starts to deteriorate.
Lack of communication.
Keeping an eye on the quality.
Getting a project done on time and under budget is not enough. You need to make sure that you deliver a quality product on top of everything else. Quality means making sure that you build what you said you would and that you do it as efficiently as you can. And that means trying not to make too many mistakes and always keeping your project on track to deliver the expected results. Feedback is the cornerstone of most successful projects so don’t be afraid to ask your team or outsiders to give you their 2 cents on the project. Feedback truly is something we all need, no matter if we’re intrinsically or extrinsically motivated to do something. It shows us what we already did correctly and where we need to develop to become better and more successful in helping others and achieving our goals. Each project is different and some of these tips may not apply to you. Regardless of how you manage your team and what your implementation flow is, don’t be afraid to think outside the box and motivate your team while you go. Celebrate important milestones and take your team out for a drink from time to time. Do your best, don’t loose your focus and don’t forget to have fun while doing it!
Implementing project management practices is the most critical part, which should be done well. However, it depends on the prior stages of project design, and planning.
Thank you for this great opportunity to learn about project managers and how they plan and implement projects.
I will implement the use of budget and a number of other new knowledge in my day to day life and at work.
Thank you everyone.

Complex projects can get confusing quickly, so it’s important to lay out who’s doing what, preferably for each project task. That’s where a RACI chart comes in. This simple matrix enables you to assign the following roles and responsibilities:
Every project comes with risk. The trick is to get ahead of it so you can formulate a plan for mitigating it. A risk assessment matrix enables you to identify all the things that could go wrong and calculate the potential damage. That makes it easy to prioritize issues and take action where it’s needed most to keep your project on course.
I will be using RACI matrix and will develop soft and hard skills.
when I receive my grades
DID you received your grades?
In the next few months, I will be using the risk register, issues log and stakeholder Analysis Framework.

I have already recommended this course to a colleague and will be sharing with others. I only wish we had known about this sooner! I had felt like the only way to access this information was through an expensive masters degree. Thank you for putting together this easy to follow, professional learning tool! Good luck to all. Has anyone had feedback from potential employers- do they like this credential? Thanks!!

Dear All,
Thank you for staying to complete the course successfully. We hope you do well to share the knowledge acquired from the course.
Definitely this course is really awesome.
All the best
This course is really awesome and educative.
Next time I meet with my Executive Director, we will be discussing what tools to implement. While I have found many of the tools useful, we will be determining whether to use this or the existing tools our agency is already familiar with.
I plan to take my Risk Assessment more seriously. I will do this using a risk assessment matrix.
Other tools I will begin to use are the RACI Matrix and the stakeholder analysis Framework
This Course made me understand the importance of an Issue Log in Project Implementation & also in creating safe environments to report issues and mistakes that may arise early enough.
Ditto. Good luck with that! I simply cannot wait to wow my team with these tools I have picked up

I look forward to sharing our teams project as we progress through in the coming months!
In the next few month, I will implement the ideas, topics I have learnt in the successful execution of project.
Please Note: You can only submit an assignment ONCE. You CANNOT re-submit an assignment once it is uploaded, so please make sure that you have selected the correct file for grading.
I wonder how we can apply this skills to non humanitarian projects such construction or software projects
From what i learned stakeholder, wbs, risk management, raci, project planning, project set up are those tools that i will use
In the next few months I will start using project charters, start using stakeholder analysis matrices, MCD Activity Based Budget Template, RACI matix etc., to enhance my activities in Project Management.
Since my position is Partnerships Officer within the Organization I work, In the next few months I will start using stakeholder analysis matrices.
First and foremost, this course was so great. I learned about so many tools that will be used in the management of my project. to name a few of them, I learned about the Work breakdown structure (WBS) which is concerned with breaking up tasks into categories and smaller categories so manageable for a single person. Additionally, I had the opportunity to develop the governance structure of my project, furthermore, I participated in a stakeholders analysis exercise by developing one and evaluating the work of others, moreover, I was privileged to look at risk management and downloaded a performance management plan with which I am familiarizing myself, and most importantly, it is a good thing that RACI was dealt with in detail. I have heard of RACI but this one was so practical. I can use this tool for performance management as well as task management. DACI seems to fit more with operation processes as well. Its a good one too, and can be used in line with RACI.
You will do well if you use the risk management tools. Please do not think you will anticipate all risks, some risks will turn into issues before they are identified. Congratulations for coming this far. You are a giant. Go and manage those endeavors and come up with unique products.
This is the module 4 discussion. You may participate in this discussion after beginning module 4.
In this course, you have learned about many different processes, tools, and practices that should help you be a better project manager. However, it is up to you to decide how you will use your new knowledge.
In the next few months, post what new processes, tools, and practices will you start using on your projects?
Then, find at least one other learner and wish them good luck!
Example post: In the next few months I will (start using project charters, start using stakeholder analysis

I DO LIKE HELP
I DO LIKE HELP
I have learnt first hand the fundamentals of project management and cannot wait to take up a project already 😁
In the next few months I'm looking to apply most of the skills I learned in this class on a Annual event. Taking this class has really educated me on how to start and finish a project on time and on or under budget. I also know that paying attention to possible risk is very important. Especially if the event is outside. I'm so delighted that I took this class I must say once again. Thank you.
Good luck.
In the next few months I will start using the WBS, Project Charter, Gantt Chart, Risk Register, Risk Assessment Matrix, Stakeholder Analysis Matrix, Problem Log, RACI Matrix in my work.
I'm interested in learning more about recruiting and retaining people. The last job we posted attracted few applicants, so I am looking for tips to increase the pool of applicants.
In the next few months I will start using project charters for scope, scheduling and budgeting
This has really been an insightful course. It has definitely heightened my understanding of Project Management. I next few months, I will take on projects with a clear understanding of RACI. This, coupled with the balancing of scope, out of scope, schedule and budget, risk management and I believe I will excel in my endeavours.
In the next times i will prepare research plan for my study, shedule it and practice.
In the next few months I will start using Work breakdown Structure (WBS) to categorize the work and make my work easy and simple to be managed by a single person.
I will also put RACI Matrix in to use.
Thank you Philanthropy University for giving me this golden opportunity to have these skills.
I will put them into practice.
In the coming years, i will be using tools suitable for project management. And good luck to any student out there who is investing time to pursue this career.
I have already started using the knowledge I got from this course because currently am planning for my project and this knowledge is helping me alot. Thanks to philanthropy university
In the next few months, I will start using the Project charter, Gantt chart, the RACI Risk matrix, the WBS, The Activity Budget during the implementation of my project Activity to guide as during the project implementation.
The course will help me to properly manage the projects. I have gain all fundementals needed for any project and from now onwards I can implement whatever learnt in this course. Good work to facilitators, you mean alot to me
IT WAS A GREAT PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE ON EXPERIMENTAL BASIS.
IT WAS A GREAT PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE ON EXPERIMENTAL BASIS.
Am so grateful for this course i learned much on the stakeholders that are important on a project and how to handle risksrisk
I am happy I did this course. I enjoyed using the tools. I had never used a Gantt chart before or RACI matrix. I hope to start using them soon because they make everything much more structured on paper. Easier to find the information I am looking for.
Congratulations. Yes learning to identify and manage the stakeholders is critically important to the success of our project.
Inspiring and educative, i have learnt a lot, intending to apply in any of my project upgoing.
With what I have learnt here, I'm sure of handling a project.
With what I have learnt here, I'm sure of handling a project manager position. The majority of the project's work will not be done by you; it will be done by the other members of the project team. That is why it is so important for every project manager to have a responsibility assignment tool ready to use before the implementation phase begins.
Finally done with this course and am glad I started and finished it.. Hoping to be a better project manager going forward..
Congrats in your newly gained knowledge
I have really gained alot from this platform from how to breakdown activities to work packages easily undertaken by a single person and designing Raci matrix with development of a risk analysis tool. Without doubt this knowledge can be applied even in one personal life in attaining desired goals.
The RACI Matrix helps the project manager to effectively select the person that can perform each activity.
in the next few months ill start using project charters, RACI Matrix, project schedules in running my projects.
thank you i will recommend a friend
We have a lot of important things, in terms of risk management, managing skills, what kind of employee we should hire for the success of the project to learn and know the role of each of us in the progress of the project
I am not yet a project manager but I will try to implement RACI on any small construction sites that I will begin in the future for practice for the real thing when it does fall in my lap
