To tell the story find a character and build a story about it to talk about your project and ask people to donate
A nonprofit I used to work for raised $50,000 in a short period of time. I think the difference was a video that was done that included cheerful messages from many of the kids that were benefitting from the project.
Using commemoration days like the world environment day, to plant trees , and get the media to cover the news
social media is actually one of the best ways to activate your existing network or within your own community to go out and help you reach out to people that you can not reach out to by yourself

not really the way my organization look for funds
crowdfunding is a great tool.I enjoyed this module
I interestingly learnt that social media is rarely used for direct conversions.
learnt that your contacts can automatically be converted to your donor
One social media practice is you can post your campaign materials on social media, monitor and respond to donors during the campaigns and as well thank donors as donations come in .
Awesome session! From the podcast i learnt that weaving my story around a character makes it compelling.
I think you got it wrong. One of the biggest mistakes is to think that contacts can be directly converted to donors.
This works. Our organization usually plans our health education around major world days for some ailments and we then use that to drive fundraising campaigns for our medical outreaches.
Yes you are right
Yes you are right
Such a great job
I learnt a great deal about crowd
funding and am ready to put the use of what i have learnt into action
Kavita, interview is very inciteful and a guide in raising crowdfund for projects.
You are right.
In my own view, setting SMART goals is key, getting stories straight, taking beautiful photographs, mapping of network, prepare to share on social media and prepare the communication materials in advance will help in delivering good crowdfunding any day anytime.

Good evening,
The best practices learned from the podcast are the following: (1) have a clear and precise SMART goal,
(2) use emotions to develop and tell the story, (3) create a sense of belonging so that people will want to participate in the future.
Good evening,
I agree a strong SMART goal is a key component in creating an effective Crowdfunding story.
Good evening,
The podcast was very useful in assisting us in producing the best Crowdfunding story that tells a compelling story and that is relatable.
I agree with you. And the most important tip I learned was about choosing a platform for your crowdfunding campaign
The most important tip I learnt was about choosing a platform for your crowdfunding campaign
I agree with you, I have had a lot of challenges about developing a good crowdfunding campaign. Her tips have been very helpful.
Indeed! I was excited to practically how to give my process story a trajectory.
Leveraging the latent potential of social media can help reach out to a wider network map beyond your geographical location.
Everything ties back to the other; while social media can help greatly with your crowdfunding campaign, the ability to craft a compelling story with a trajectory will help get the needed attention. I enjoyed this course like everyone else am sure.
I learned is important powerful stories to engaged in the crowdfunding.
For the crowdfunding I use Global Giving Platform.
A network mapping which should start from core workers and family members could be the source of donors. I thought donors are only big government agencies or foundations. So I h've learnt that using the nearby people can also used to influence other donors in crowdfunding.
I agree with you, that the social media provides a wide range of donors ,however with little amount of unrestricted Fund
learnt that your contacts can automatically be converted to your donor
I've learnt that it's important to create SMART goals, so that those funding the project may understand exactly what your targets are and when you intend to achieve them
I actually didn't know anything about crowd fundraising. I am grateful to this course that I got to learn about this.
It was great to be able to access to this experience to learn how to create a crowdfunding. Thank you Kavita for sharing it in the podcast
The Podcast was really interesting.
I think Social media is a very important tool to not just to promote your organization or projects, but also to raise awareness on the cause you follow. Also, to build a community, create relationships and share with donors experiences that maybe they can’t reach from where they are by making them part of the cause, making them feel their contribution is important and without it, it wouldn’t be the same.
Also I believe that Social Media can give transparency and credibility to the organization.
Through Social Media, we break the barriers of time and space, borders which would allow attracting people from different contexts and cultures and achieving a more diverse and fruitful feedback experience.
I don’t have experience but I’m really interested in creating a crowdfunding platform.
Amazing!
One thing i learnt is to create that sense of belongingness for my community using information
aptly correct the right platform for your crowdfunding matters a lot to the success of your crowdfunding

Crowdfunding is most often used by startup companies or growing businesses as a way of accessing alternative funds. It is an innovative way of sourcing funding for new projects, businesses or ideas.
l was not aware that Facebook can be one of the fundraising platforms
Integrate the offline into online platform to be more effective.
Awesome.
@MerlyPR I have experience with this. I used crowdfunding for personal reasons when I needed help with medical bills for my service animal. Sharing personal stories and pictures made a huge difference in the donations I received.
I learned that using social media is not necessarily for converting your contacts into donors, but more for expanding your potential donor network, creating community, and bringing awareness of your organization to a larger network of people.
informing about your cause and creating a community is the key
What is one social media best practice or crowdfunding tip that you learned from this podcast that you didn’t know before? Vetting a crowdfunding website. While I have used big-named websites before and subconsciously done the vetting process, I like the idea of incorporating that step as an intentional part of online tools/crowdfunding.
Do you have experience implementing one of the best practices or tips that your peer identified? If so, please respond and share an example of how you have implemented it. Yes! For example, the tip about have a very specific but realistic goal ("100 kids" instead of "1 million" or no number at all) is something I always try to use. This can come in a couple of forms: (a) designating an end goal and having a "thermometer" to measure how close we are to reaching out funding goal, or (b) saying something to the effect of "a $10 donation will fund [x], a $25 donation will fund [x]," and so forth so donors can feel like they are funding something tangible -- even if from far away.
The one crowdfunding tip that I’ve learned from this podcast that I didn’t know before is the importance of appreciating your donors within the first 48 hours of their donation. That by thanking them you are doing two things, shaping gratitude that they’ve bought into the cause you are fundraising for and two, that donors after their donation are excited and expectant so it is much easier to get them to do more for you to reach your goal.
I learnt that it's good to map your network by way identifying fundraising advocates and keeping them engaged. Further its a good practice to thank a donor within the first 48 hours of giving/ donating
@Lnm me too. i am glad i am empowered to fundraise for my non profit
@TuyetNguyen we share in this too. I am eager to put this to practice
I learned network mapping
One of the best way of using Social media i did not know about fundraising was that it really enhances to convert contacts into donors.
I learned from Kavita podcast that it's not about knowing rich people but presentation of idea in such a way to convince audience. Also, social media like Facebook is not the best place to raise funds but grow community that might help in volunteering and eventually commit. Activities base programs and offers to prospects is best bet to raise fund without actually asking. Thanks Kavita and Tom
Good idea and great tool too
I learned that one of the best was to crowdfund using social media is by setting up captains to create crowdfunding teams within their communities as opposed to trying to all the crowdfunding yourself. This seems like it would be a lot more successful and less stressful than trying to have one person or team do all the fundraising on their own, and I will be using this knowledge in the future.
This is absolutely true! When I was previously fundraising for another organization I ran game nights and the profets from food sold and admission go to the organization I was fundraising for. The only thing I would caution is to be careful how mush you spend on food, entertainment etc. for an event like that, so you don't end up spending so more you spent a lot of effort to raise only a small amount of funds after everything is paid for.
I learn about network mapping, very educative and interesting and very practical,
You can't use social media to directly mobilse funds
I totally agree I learnt this too
I really liked this module because it gives clear cloudfunding strategies
This podcast was full of important insightful tips, but the best part was that a Globalgiving employee gave all of these tips. The organization I am currently working for has been a partner of this platform for over 6 years, and I still continue to learn more and more from this platform despite the years. But what stood out for me the most was the tip about trying to get one large donor or a couple of large donors that are already in your network to give a sum in advance as matching, and use this large sum that you get as matching to encourage alot of new smaller donations to come in. I did not know about this tip, and never really thought about other ways we can use these large funds instead of immediately allocating it to projects.
Yes, this is very important. In our organization for many years we have kept this as a key part of all of our email campaigns, project reports and appeals, and we always use either stories from our past members or current participants of our organization or stories from long-time volunteers. We try our best to always to have a trajectory in saying a story, especially with the success stores we share of our organization because it shows the impact our intervention provided our community which always benefits the children who are currently struggling, as the stories prove to these children that things can get better, no matter how difficult their circumstances are.
engaging people with activities and interactions is something that i did not think about earlier.
very helpful content and engagement
Social media is a great and effect tool to raise awareness. Apps so interconnected, one can get a community together so fast
Creating and cultivating a donor community. It's often so easy to just ask for money but never establishing that sense of belonging among donors.
I have just learned that even online it is necessary to thank the donor at least in 48 hours something that I did not know before
engaging with supporters by building a community
I learnt how to perform a successful crowdfunding event on Internet.
Awesome!!!
Am also impressed by the tips given
its a very educative pod cast which has made me see things differently.
I loved the tip about developing an online community of people with similar interests and passions.
The most useful tip I learned focused on building a community of supporters, rather than simply advertising and marketing your mission.
Awesome!!!
