identifying interim outcomes is necessary always ?
yes the interim out come is necessary
Necessary but unacceptable scientifically.
What is interim? My imagination is a caplet with red colour inside vitamin and mineral and some sugar. It looks like a game changing. I couldn't find it in scrubs. It might be lost somewhere my mistake
Interim outcomes are necessary because they act as milestones and are sort of an early warning sign in the case that the strategy that you have chosen is not going to be effective in the long run.
Could you explain further what you mean with "unacceptable scientifically"? And also, advocates are not academics, the tools are not design to be scientifically accurate, but functional to the purposes of advocacy, so... what gives?
Interim outcomes are important for progress evaluation. They help advocate know if they have achieved their milestones.
Capacity and funding for effective advocacy MEL is always an issue in our organisation - this has been really useful to support the development of a flexible MEL framework which will improve this.
Very excellent my dear. We should all know this. Before the final outcome which may not be as expected you have to know your status before. You do the mock exam or the internal for you to prepare for the final. The internal will let you know of yourself to help you prepare ahead for the final. The internal stands for interim while the final stands for Impact.
Identifying interim outcomes is very important especially if you are playing the long game. If you are dealing with changing policy or public perception it can take many years and if your funders do not see some good outcomes, you can lose all of your funding although you might be making slow progress. By identifying and measuring interim outcomes you can manage expectations and show incremental progress to your goal.
Interim outdone are necessary they are like a stepping stone or a milestone
It is always necessary as this will help evaluate your strategies and tactics and the need for changing advocacy approaches.
most advocates track outputs not outcomes
Keep both your strategies, tactics and monitoring &evaluation flexible as much as possible.

Measuring and evaluating your progress not only for fundraisers but for your organisation is important. It can help you see what's working and what isnt and where you can change your strategies
Why did you say that?
Be intentional in your monitoring and evaluation.
This is an excellent topic
quite and detailed and informative article
Yes, I agree. In the end, you have an wholesome overview of how effective your advocacy has been
Yes. It helps you ascertain as well as validate your advocacy strategy, as well as the effectiveness
I totally agree. Very informed and detailed!
Doing it for your organisation keeps you constantly in the know, with perfect understanding of how far and how well the advocacy strategies are working. It should be for funder alone.
I agree with this thought! So apt!
Sadly, this is the situation of things. Hopefully, they'll get enlightened to understand that output and outcome do not mean the same thing, and that great importance should be attached to outcomes.
Why they are not giving multiple attempts to solve questions
Choosing the best method to measure interim outcomes is key to overall success.
I like the idea of tracking the interim outputs rather than trying to reach long term goals too quickly.
Interim outcomes are important milestones in evaluating the progress you are making in your advocacy within the time frame and policy context. They help you to you are going to achieve your milestones or not. Identifying your interim outcomes will help you know early that your choice strategy will or not be effective in the long run. Its important for advocates to develop tools that collect relevant data. Its also helpful to understand the audiences and the levels of change advocates are monitoirng. That is; audiences including the Public, Influencers and decision makers require different tactics from the awareness, will and action levels. This therefore determines the ways outcomes are designed to suit the various audiences and levels of change.
Interim outcomes are very important in advocacy but only if they help you specify who you want to change and how he/she will change, when it directly connect with your tactics, time frame and the expected outcome and it should also signal your political gain towards achieving the outcome of advocacy.
Interim outcome is necessary.
Ma'am, I would appreciate if you explain this cause as an advocate you are trying to solve a problem and I don't think it has to be scientifically proven because we are are not undergoing any experiment rather trying to tackle an issue in our everyday lives.
But we should consider the outcome which deals with the attitude and behaviour of other people
It could have been better if you explained further how its unaccepted for us to understand
The interim outcome is very necessary
i have noted that the interim outcomes are very important
Identifying interim outcome helps more especially when you are advocating for policy change
identifying interim outcomes is necessary always ?
Exactly.
yes the interim out come is necessary
Interim advocacy bring great change in the society either in governance and leadership development.
Interim outcomes are necessary in advocacy because they lay the basis to evaluate an advocacy program
Interim outcomes are different from outputs
Interim outcomes are should link with the tactic
Of course yes because there is no evidence that we always able to come to final outcomes in an advocacy as policy advocacy is too much complex.
I really do not have a deep understanding on this module 👀
Some of the methods are helpful but truth to be told, it's never 100% accurate when measuring advocacy effort.
Most certainly the interim outcomes play a vital role in the cause of action
Great presentation!
I just want to know, what are the clear cut differences between advocacy work and direct program work. This is quite relevant because Tanya kept of mentioning that evaluating advocacy work is different from evaluating a direct program.
This topic is more complexed but helped me a whole lot to understand the difference between outputs and outcomes.
I found this pod cast thought provoking. A little confusing because of the flexibility component.
It was good to learn about the different methods of measurement and to hear, once again, how important it is to measure interim outcomes. Taking an adaptable approach to both our tasks and measurement methods is vital to achieving long-term goals as the environments we operate in are continuously changing.

First and foremost, there are three characteristics which will assist you to have a better results on your Advocacy activities your are about to do. The following are some of them:
One of the interesting things that stood out to me in Module 5 was the introduction of more unique Advocacy Evaluation Methods. Most of us are very familiar with the traditional evaluative tools: interviews, surveys, focus groups, polling and case studies; however, few of us were familiar with the unique advocacy evaluative tools, such as the three highlighted in the lesson: Policy Maker Rating; Champion Tracking, and the Intense Period Debriefs. Such tools helped me to understand even more that the advocacy effort is centered on the decision-maker and his/her/their levels of engagement, which ultimately and hopefully lead to the final goal/impact of the advocacy effort.
hi could you please be more elaborate, how do you mean when you said its unacceptable scientifically?
Very important to identify the interim outcomes
Yes, it is.
The lesson on creating interim outcomes was very instructive because it helped advocate to familiarize funders with the expectations that the final outcome may not appear right away. Instead, it helps everyone to see that there may be small victories before achieving the final outcome.
This is really helpful as identifying interim outcomes is a great tool for positioning; if the message isn't being received, maybe it needs to be changed.
I liked the feedback about reevaluating successes and looking at interim successes. I found that thought process helpful when this line of work meets so many roadblocks.
Interim outcomes are definitely necessary, because they can show progress over time, rather than waiting until the end of a an outreach push, or waiting until the end result has come around, which could take years! It is helpful to look at the smaller steps inbetween to see how your work may or may not be doing what you want it to do, and adjusting as you go, so you don't waste time and effort on things that aren't effective.
The interim outcome is so important.
YES I DO AGREE WITH THIS
Yes I agree
I really don't understand some of these concept
Yes I also agree to this
Something I've learned in this module is to always keep not only your your tactics but also your M and E flexible
I think to understand this module one would need to refer back to module 3
I still need clarification on how to measure political will building
The interim outcome is very clearly explained and very good to build ground before moving to the next one.
Interim outcomes are truly like milestone.
It is important indeed to identify interim outcomes if feasible. Nevertheless, they have to be meaningful ones that indicate if you are on the right direction. Firstly, they have to be specific about who will change, which kinds of audiences, and how they will change. Secondly, they have to be directly and logically linked to the tactics and time frames. Finally, they have to signal that the strategy is moving towards “the win”, given how politics and influence work in the current context.
I agree with you @rsarasua . It is also important to led the funders know that difference between outputs and outcomes as many people and organizations use them interchangeably.
I was motivated and shall applied it to explore my knowledge in my organization

Mastering the Theory of Change is very critical at this point

This session talks more about the different tactics and strategies to use for a successful advocacy. It also talks about the importance of advocacy evaluation.
This session talks more about the different risks in advocacy and helps us know how to identify them and how to get the Mitigation strategies.
interim outcomes are necessary to know what is the progress until that time
Yes, Identifying interim outcomes is necessary always because it helps to focus our tactics and develop appropriate evaluation tools to measure how effective our advocacy strategies are. This helps us to learn from the evaluation and develop new strategies for moving forward.
I love the Characteristics and the Methods which was elucidated...
And Finally the Tips its very useful for my professional conduct of behaviour (Highlight of the Session & Difference than other advocacy courses)
Very important to measure the interim outcomes as that will help you to understand if your project has taken the right direction to accomplish the overall goal. it is the measuring of interim outcomes that can help an advocate to know if you are targeting the specific audience and how the tactics used are really in line with the planned ultimate goal. Measuring interim outcome will help advocate to learn and re strategise if it seem that the project is not targeting the real audience and the right change which is needed.

Exactly, strategies and tactics are the building blocks of advocacy so to accomplish the proposed change there must be amended now and again until the goal is achieved.

Ya agreed to the interpretation
Ya this is very true
Outcomes should be more effective than what was expected
