  • Change mechanisms

How will your activities cause the outcomes you want to see? The mechanisms stage is where you describe how you want people to engage with your activities, or experience them, to make outcomes more likely.

  • To describe the mechanisms stage of my theory of change, I would need to identify the specific activities that I plan to undertake to achieve my desired outcomes. These activities should be logically connected to the outcomes I want to see, and there should be a clear cause-and-effect relationship between the two.

For example, if my goal is to improve access to education for girls in a particular community, my activities might include building a school, providing scholarships, and training teachers. The mechanisms that I would use to connect these activities to my desired outcomes might include:

Conducting a needs assessment to identify the specific barriers that are preventing girls from accessing education in the community.
Engaging with community leaders and parents to build support for girls' education and to address any cultural or social barriers to their participation.
Providing targeted outreach to girls and their families to encourage enrollment and attendance in the school.
Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of my activities to make adjustments as needed to ensure that they are contributing to the desired outcomes.
By carefully identifying the mechanisms that I will use to connect my activities to my desired outcomes, I can create a clear and logical pathway for achieving my goals.
