Reasons to drug abuse are as many as people who use and abuse drugs. However, these reasons can be encapsulated under a number of factors. Peer pressure has stood tall among the factors blamed on indulgence in drug use and abuse.
Regrettably, there are adequate controls of the drugs of abuse, especially in low and medium income countries where there is paucity of systems and mechanisms to control such illegitimate activities.
There is the need for mass sensitization and psychoeducation, especially among the young people, of the obnoxious effects of drug abuse, and at the same time strengthen them mental to overcome the vulnerabilities that dispose them to such indulgence. -
