Best way to engage is to first build trust with families and daughters. Tell them about your project and then educate them upon reproductive health, educate girls on safe sex, communicate with them , email them, invite mothers and daughters both so the mother knows what’s the purpose behind the Roots of Health services.

The best way to engage the families who are concerned and have questions about the root health services is sensitization, organizing an open dialogue workshop where the families will be invited to share their questions and concerns and the project staffs along with an expert will respond to them and also share the successes achieved in other communities as a result of the project to the parents.

I think there is no best engagement method, it is depends on the the steps which Amina followed that helps to understand the local context and the stakeholders need and interest.

My achieved engagement goal was 45% against 70%. The goal was not achieved because of poor level of language understanding. Engagement review shows that the HSE terminologies are too high for their level. My plan to overcome this obstacle is to speak the language at their level.

Since the parents are always at work during the weekdays from 9 am to 5 pm, scheduling a meeting or open forum with the parents during weekdays would be a wrong decision. A visit to parents house so that individual parents' questions can be answered would have been the best method, but then, that will be very cost-intensive and also, it'll be time-wasting

Amina should conduct families visits consultations during the evening hours probably when the families are back from their daily routine activities to solicit for a better relationship and trust that will remove barriers

Parents' permission is most crucial for Amina's project. The anxiety and concern of parents should first be understood appreciated and internalised. Engagement should be planned on one-to-one basis to give adequate time, privacy and attention to parents. Engagement strategy should be drawn up keeping the following factors in mind:

1. Time, date, place: As per parents convenience. Draw up a schedule that allows enough time overflow for discussion. Reach in time. Do not leave till the last doubt is clarified to parents satisfaction.
2. Content: Standard deck and FAQs to be finalised so that all parents can be disseminated the same information.
3. Language: To be parents choice
4. Manner of dissemination of standard deck: Could be PPT, Placards, Flip charts.... depending on tech savvyness of parents and facilities available at the meeting venue.
5. Presenter of standard deck: To be knowledgeable about the project, with good communication skills and knowing parents language well
6. Handout and FAQs to be in parents language. Verifiable testimonies to be provided
7. The engagement team should have a senior member of the project team/ organisation to lend credibility, seriousness and gravitas.
8. Parents should be invited to witness the project team in action by providing them necessary details.
9. All parents with whom one-to-one is not possible for whatever reason may be requested to attend a workshop / meet- and-greet at a community centre/ convenient public place preferably on a holiday. Parents of children who are already participants may also be invited for providing live testimonies.

Apart from their schools there could be other strategic engagement platform that can be leveraged on, for example visiting of their homes, peer group gathering, and visiting neighborhoods among cluster families and engaging them.

I would suggest that the best way to give the information to de parents, is to do home visits. That way they will fill confortable in a private space were they can ask whatever they need. Also, they won´t have to go out in work ours.

Another method can be that when the girls are coming to the clinic they can come with their parents

Amina can consider having a town hall meeting with families over the weekends or maintain the one on one meetings in the evening once the families retire from work. The one on one meetings should be kept short i.e. one hour since the family members are already exhausted from work

My engagement goal was To train 31 social welfare health workers to help mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS on 1000 Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) and their families in 9 months. However, I failed to achieve my goal because some non-reactive households were actually liaising with some dubious social health workers to declare them as reactive household in order to receive some sort of support services from the organization. My engagement review is that proper background checks were not conducted during the engagement of the social welfare health workers. My plan to overcome this obstacle is to ensure that going forward, proper background checks must be conducted before any engagement, and any worker found wanting will be dismissed immediately to serve as a deterrent for other.

The best engagement method for families is to have a workshop for the interested parents, create a group chat for those who have phones, and send messages to those with questions.
