  • Effectively confronting and overcoming the Fall army worm invasion in Kenya.

Although Fall Army worms are new to Kenya, They are not new in South American Countries., Where they were controlled using Pheromones traps, which target the adults or butterflies which lay the eggs. This traps have chemicals that attract and kill male moths.
Our member company has won a FAO invitation to bid for the supply of the bucket Pheromone traps up to 11th. January 2019.
They can produce and supply them together with the Pheromone lures for as little as Usd10. The challenge is to find ways and means to cover 20 million acres of land at the rate of 4 Pheromone lure traps per acre. This would take care of the invaded farms as well as the un-invaded ones, in a sustainable way avoiding the use of harm full chemicals as much as possible. And it would guarantee both house hold and National food security in the long term.
