  • Action toward supporting South Sudanese Refugees Children

South Sudan in 2015, people remain concerned about stability and peace in many regions of South Sudan. Between 2013 to 2016 approximately 194,888 SSR have fled to Sudan seeking asylum, with 115,987 (60%) fleeing to refugee camps and host communities in White Nile State. The refugees currently stands at 97,989 out of them 53% are children.
The dynamic situation and ongoing influx of new arrivals to the SSR camps means information on refugee population becomes outdated almost by the day. The children fleeing the war in South Sudan have suffered serious consequences in being victims of violence or witnesses of crimes against their relatives and other close family members. The impact of displacement on children to a new environment which they have never been to before, puts more pressure on their psychosocial wellbeing and affects their normal life routine negatively.
Plan International Sudan remains the main INGO currently working in White Nile state camps with a constant presence. Plan International Sudan aims to respond to the urgent WASH, livelihoods and child protection needs for South Sudanese refugees who were affected by the armed conflict. The refugees face shortages in safe drinking water, access to latrines and various hygiene & sanitations facilities. There is also a lack of employment or income generating activities amongst the youth and women of the camps which increase dependency on external aid.
