    FAMILIES AID CHARITY–UGANDA.
Is Non Governmental Organization dully registered as a Community Based Organization under Kasese District Local government in Uganda. Its main office is in Kasese district and is fully operational since January 2017 with its mission “strengthening and re-uniting Families for strong foundation of communities”. IMG_20180401_123902.jpg This is carried out through the following activities: Empowering families with element of cooperative leadership and entrepreneurial skills as a way of eradicating poverty in communities as they start and manage business projects, Re-uniting divorced couples, Re-uniting children with their parents families, Sensitizing divorced couples on how best to take care of children when divorced, Sensitizing the communities about child protection policies, Reporting cases of child bullying and abuse to local Authorities, sensitizing target children on Education as foundation and back bone of their lives, As Families Aid Charity –Uganda, Philanthropy University has not only helped but also has greatly transformed our Organization as a result of the knowledge and skills I attained through the process of the course. Prior to attending the Philanthropy University course, as Families Aid –Uganda being a young and baby organization in its conception, we had challenges on how to align and identify the key effective programs to be piloted first to check on and drive our impact and relevance to the set communities. This was because no one in the organization could easily design and generate a program that could guide and inform us on how to create an impact and scale bigger with the simplest method tested and proven using the available resources.
As we struggled then I came across Philanthropy University online free courses with such desire and interest, I decided to take on. As the organization, we are very grateful to Philanthropy University, also privileged and honored to have enrolled for the courses because after the course, through the empowerment, skills and knowledge I attained, I was able to design 2 programs. One as Leadership and Entrepreneurship Development and Child care Love. These two programs were designed and effectively did pilot implementation in which amazing results came as a result of testing and proving them to be reaching , scable and replicable to other neighboring districts of Kabale, Kabarole, Kyenjojo and Masindi with ultimate coverage in Kasese as host district.
The Leadership and Entrepreneurship Development Program is capacity building program designed to equip families primarily with Entrepreneurship skills through mobilization and selection of 2 adults per family of 50 households in Kasese District as pilot number. The average of 100 family members were taken through a 3 month training on Entrepreneurship skills that is basics on starting and managing enterprises, and more of product making skills for example they learned how to manufacture Yorghut since the region has plenty of milk with its high consumption of Yorghut products, they also learned how to make nutritious porridge booster which is composed of the locally grown cereals for example Soya, Millet, Rice, Sorghum and wheat. This is majorly to equip families with such a skill to eliminate the rate of malnutrition among a 5 year old and below children as it is one of the challenges faced with children here as they are faced with malnutrition. This mixture of such cereals reach in Vitamins, proteins Carbohydrates and starch literally with all food values provide a variety of such nutrients to the children that enhance their body growth and health as a boost which in turn reduce on the rate of children affected.
Among the other product making skills taught include Powder and Liquid detergents, bar soap, paper bags , art and crafts, African craft shoes, peanut butter, mention but a few.
They families are then encouraged to form Associations in which they start manufacture of the products of their choice, interests and ability with the guidance and advice from one of the staff from the organization. They are trained with consideration of quality as paramount standard to be embraced in the production process so as to be able to compete nationally with already established enterprises as these products are packaged and branded with creativity in mind in order to entice and attract more customers. The market is always lobbied starting with Local Authorities, communities around, as well preparing for international markets.

What we hope to achieve by using Philanthropy University new courses, communities and an unrestricted grant.
As Families Aid Charity being a Nonprofit making organization, for the sustainability of the programs, we have been relying so much on locally driven few funders who commit themselves to see the program run. However we have not been so able to fully roll out the program as we intend as a result of lack of funding though we try to use locally available resources because that, the new courses for example fundraising and others not mentioned here, will greatly be of savior to us since it will equip us with skills on how we shall be able to identify ways to raise money for our organization, learn crucial fundraising terms and, most importantly, create a map of our personal and professional networks for us to identify potential donors and what they look for when deciding whether to fund our programs so that we can plan to strengthen the areas in need.
The communities will guide us as a bench mark where we shall be able to learn best practices, share new ideas, knowledge, skills and methodologies that are working in the 21st Century as far as managing and sustaining Non Profit making organizations are concerned.
The Unrestricted grant if a warded, will to the greatest extent offer biggest hand of support and help for us to be able to reach and scale the programs into other districts we haven’t reached but with great need to create an impact to the unbroken families for example in Mbarara, Ibanda, Ntungamo, Isingiro and others.
As pictures speak a thousand words, so allow me refer you to have a look at them. IMG_20180321_132416.jpg. IMG_20180327_154024.jpg.
