  • How Charles (Founder) Mamwaki business has benefited from courses offered by Philanthropy University

Mamwaki enterprise has been initiated into faecal waste briquette business after the founder (Charles) studied courses in Global Social Entrepreneurship and how to Scale Social Impact by Philanthropy University and Institute for Business and Social Impact Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley. The courses helped the founder (Charles) in conducting a a biomass fuel market study for faecal waste briquettes; the biomass fuel market study was conducted in year 2016 informing his decision to switch to a sustainable business model that offers utilization of faecal waste in making briquettes that offer many solutions to the population towards achieving SDGs related to poverty reduction and climate change. The courses undertaken by Charles remains a key support to success of this business, networking and collaboration as well as fundraising support. The knowledge gained from the courses has also helped in identification and analysis of target customer segments matching needs to particular segment; informing the consumers’ need of the briquettes produced from human waste.
Although Charles has acquired substantial management skills, knowledge and technical capacity for planning and implementing business from Philanthropy university; additional challenges resulting from the business demands further capacity strengthening in terms of technical competence. I believe that new courses, communities and an unrestricted grant will go a long journey in strengthening the capacity to manage Mamwaki business.
