  • Patrick Jonathan Mwale

    Hey Colleagues!

    My name is Patrick Jonathan Mwale working for Communities in Development Activities (COIDA), a local NGO based and working in Mzimba. Our offices are at Mzimba Boma behind Mzimba Police Station. Patrick Jonathan Mwale developed a passion for community development way back in 2002 when he was a teacher at a private school in Blantyre. Patrick was a patron for a school club and later formed a community based youth group, the exposure gained motivated Patrick to start COIDA. Today, Communities in Development Activities (COIDA) has grown, legally registered and significantly contributing to imparting significant life skills for youth, women and children in Northern Malawi. Patrick has a Post Graduate Certificate in Sustainable development from Staffordshire University, Advanced Diploma in Rural and Community Development and a Diploma in NGO development and Management from Galilee College in Israel. In COIDA, Patrick’s main roles includes managing horizontal and vertical relations and resource mobilization and management.

    COIDA (Communities in Development Activities)
    Overview & Description
    COIDA work towards improving the livelihood of disadvantaged women and children in rural Malawi. Their programs are focused on creating an environment where women and children are able to access basic education, health care and exercise their sexual reproductive health rights.

    Special sauce
    COIDA promotes women as the key builders of a productive generation. Their work aims to help women and girls to acquire important skills to negotiate for their power and grow a stronger economic base in rural communities.

    Leadership
    The founder, Patrick Jonathan Mwale was born and still lives in the same rural community where COIDA’s programs are based. His team is as dedicated to improving the low literacy, low health access and low economic status of women and children in their community.

    Plans for Growth
    • Reach 5 more schools in their catchment area with COIDA SRH services in the next 3 years, including further construction of sanitization facilities for schools.
    • Provide skills to chief’s forums on elimination of gender based violence in 5 TAs in Mzimba south district.
    • Establish a skills development center to train 60 women and girls in various entrepreneurship based businesses.

    My joining is to advance my additional skills in crowdsfunding and link up with like minded development practitioners.
