  • To all, hi!
I am a Liberian national and pharmacist. I have been in academia for a little over two decades. Here, in the educational sector, I have served as Dean of the University of Liberia Pharmacy School and just retired after serving a twelve-year tenure at the headquarters of WAHO (West African Health Organisation) which is the health institution or organ of ECOWAS (The Economic Community of West African States) in the city of Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso.
To contribute towards the postwar renewal and reconstruction of my country, Liberia, I founded the grassroots nonprofit called HEAPIDER-Concern. This is to intervene in / focus on Health (including healthcare delivery, health promotion and information), agricultural assistance, advocacy –making, human rights and environmental protection, integrated development including capacity building (continuing professional development and support to regular education) and humanitarianism (including relief and alms). It is yet to be formally launched and needs a very clearly developed and implamentation-friendly/implementable strategic plan. Of course there is a dire need for the input of experts thereof, I find it equally helpful that I myself participate in the process. Hence, I have got no doubt that this course, including foremost the expertise of the instructor and, to some extent, interaction with you (my colleague course participants), will be of great assistance for me.

  • Hi everyone,

I'm from Thailand but I have lived in UK (Good) as young child, Australia (Horrible) as well as Sweden for about one year for business.

I will and an planning to learn until I drop dead since I was sexually abused when I was a child as well as my now ex- boyfriend who was abused when was he was conscripted into Thai military and was turned into a different person. Professionally, I'm planning to retire at the age of 55 (I'm 35 now) and put my full effort and all of my money into the foundation.

The foundation in question is going to be extremely specific in nature which is to: Stop State-sponsored rape and torture amongst juvenile and young people around the would. This includes all developing and developed countries (I was molested when I was 12-13 in Thailand and 17 when I was in custody in Australia).

I started with nothing in my life in an underdeveloped country but I was not my fault that I was born poor but it will be my fault if I turn 55 and remain poor. At the end of the day, I believe that if I die rich, I have failed in life.

There are some who witnessed the atrocities and tried to seek justice, only to have their lives ruined or be put in prison for criminal defamation of the armed forces or even disappear from the face of the earth. The Thai legal and justice system had consistently and utterly failed when its citizens attempted to hold the military accountable for any of their actions.

I attempted to launch campaigns regarding treatment and rights of the conscripts but was faced with several threats from the military. Still, I kept pushing forward until they actually delivered a death threat to me in person at my apartment's doorstep then told me that if not for their respect for my grandfather (Who was a senior palace official), I would already be dead without warning.

I switched my strategy to co-operate with Amnesty International and helped them anonymously to produce an extended report regarding the treatment of Thai conscripts but it had yielded no result even though we had spent a significant amount of donated money. I had severed ties with them since all they do here in Thailand is produce expensive reports and hold meetings at beach destination resorts around the country at donors’ expense.

I already have a 501(c)(3) US foundation in place in the US but that already almost bankrupt me since it costs $4,000 to set it up and couple of hundreds to run (I have found pro bono lawyer to help me run that). Still, I may consider EU structure as well. It depends on the strategies that I will develop during the coming years.

My family has cut me off since it is a practice in Thai culture not to rock the boat, especially when it comes to military matter, so I am on my own right now. I have attempted to seek help with Amnesty International and such but they are pretty much writing expensive report and conduct meetings at luxury resorts here in Thailand at donors' expense so I severed tie with those organisations as I already mentioned in the previous section.

I am going to do this on my own and co-operate with foundation outside of Thailand as Foundation-to-Foundation work similar to B2B business strategies.

I'm well aware that revenge is a lazy form of grieve and I am not here to deny that I am not grieving and struggle. Still, I think it is more of fears that overcome me; and that need courage. Courage is not an absent of fear but simply a realisation that there is something that is more important than fear. Therefore, I would like the opportunity to start to be courageous in the matter.

Thank you for listening and please throw any ideas at me if you have them.

  • Hi, I am super excited to take this course. I have been on the journey for a while to find the tools non-profits can use to identify/track/measure their intended impact (not their mission, and not their brand language). My world opened up when I started to learn about Theory of Change, logical frameworks, and Monitoring & Evaluation. I am excited to figure out how to leverage these tools to map out our organizations intended impact while marrying it with our community's 10 year plan.
