  • Yes, my organization works with data analysts though we called them Management Information System Specialists.

    They are in charge of cross-checkin, data cleaning and keeping of all the records, information and social characteristics details of poor and vulnerable people in the society, that data entry clerks might have collected and collated while on the field.

    Modern and advanced way and skill of data analysis/ interpretation will be helpful to my team.

    It has helped my organization to know at a glance the total number of poor and vulnerable people in a selected community, disaggregated by gender, disability and educational levels. Not only that, but in some other areas as well.

    I thank you

    @FAIZI Hi AWYNDHAM, It would be wounder full to see training course on Data Analysis. I am looking forward to see a training curse on HR Matrix to analyse HR data .
    Regards.

  • My organisation does not work with Data analysts , but i do a lot of work using excel to create charts and power-point slides to present our pipeline data for business analysis. We are in the process for looking for data analysts. The most useful skills will be how to use software for Data Analysis in order to improve on accuracy and remove the manual process of using spreadsheets. The challenge with using excel is that when dealing with a lot of data there is room for errors and its a challenge to sort the data. Another skill that can be useful is data presentation and visualisation.

    1. Yes. Data Analysts in my organization are usually Program Officers who analyze research data using Excel and SPSS.
    2. Data visualization for easy presentation of research findings. Our reports are usually bulky
    3. In making recommendations to the government on existing policies following analysis of gathered data
  • Bonjour

  • So excited to be here

    2. What would be the most helpful data science skills for you or your team to learn?
    3. How has data science helped your organization?
    1. Yes my organization make use of data analysts but we refer to them as administrative assistants. They are non professionals in data analysis.

    2. Their job is to collect data on all that visited or called for enquirery:- (their names, address, phone numbers, distance from home etc. as well as their feedbacks on the fees and course schedules) etc.

    3. The most useful skills to my team would be skills in data collection, organization, analysis, interpretation and presentation. If the skills in statistical analysis is poor, decision making, programming and data visualization will be affected. I would therefore like my team, including myself, to know more on how to make designs and plans for data collection and making them readily available for use in decision making and other areas like programming and data visualization.

    4. Data science has helped my organization immensely to design programs that are acceptable and affordable by most learners in terms of fees charged and class schedules. It has also helped us to take decisions and to make strategic plans for progress.

  • Hi. My organization doesn't totally focus on data analysis but I used data to understand the nature of the work I am associated with. Data visualization has helped me a lot to understand how things work and how I can improve processes or systems in order to sustain the operation.

  • My organization has a fairly new Data Management Unit. This unit is responsible for curating and managing all data generated from researches and surveys. A lot of activities are planned for data usage and data science is a tool that is urgently needed to achieve all the tasks planned. Having a skill in data science is a must in order to be relevant in the institute as an employee. I will be interested in having data science skills to be able to visualize data, mine, and engineer data for use. The organization has a data scientist working specifically on a project, but a data scientist is also needed to handle data from all other institutional-based projects. I would like to have more knowledge about data analysis, data visualization, and tools to make use of data for more definitive results and decision taking.

    1. Yes, we do work with data analysts. The types of tasks are usually around managing academic research data, and psychometric and other data (quantitative and qualitative) for individual clients and organizations.

    2. Software applications for data analysis and reporting would be most helpful.

    3. Data science has helped our team and organization to leverage data to make more accurate projections and better decisions; both in the personal and organizational consulting spheres. It also provides great objectivity in analysisng and interpreting observations.

    1. No, there are no data scientist. We need to analyse the data and use different kinds of tests for analysis which is a big issue in deciding wht will be the correct test to be used. We need to find causal relations and whether factors are associated.
    2. I would like to learn how to analyse raw data and what tests to be used and what are technical terms used by different softwares. like SPSS uses p-value.
    3. It helps to validate our key findings and give a better support to the study.
  • Puntland Youth Association so far has not done any direct implementation of projects but in the near future there are projects in the pipeline that we are going to implement them directly.

    In response to the questions, we do not work with data scientists and we need to get the skills of data sciences so that we are able to undertake both basline survey, and monitoring and evaluation of projects that would help us to predict the project relevance, feasibility and sustainability. Learning SPSS, STATA and Excel for data entry and data analysis is of paramount important for our organziation.

  • @awyndham Thank you for the tag. I have been looking up for online courses on Data Science. I am into research and I want to develop skills in this direction. Also the future job market has demand for data scientists. If a free course gets launched for Data Science I would also request for inclusion of essential concepts from Statistics in the course as well so that people who do not have Statistice background but have to learn Data Analysis will benefit. Those concepts which we are required to know in order to be picked up recruiters would be great.

    1. Yes, I am the data analyst for my organisation. And my work is mostly an administrative work for now as we are still in the start up phase.
    2. Skills like data visualization and analysis are key for me and my organisation.
    3. We are still yet to implement that as data collection has not started yet.
  • Thank you so much for such initiative, my organisation works with data and i am currently into data management and analysis so having that course will be very helpful. I have been trying to enroll for big data analytics with some institutions and if it happens that its offered here then it makes my career path much better.

  • Such an interesting course. As project managers, it is important to have insights into data for decision making. And that is exactly what i do daily with my data managers. Attending this course will enhance my understanding and analytical capabilities and skills. Data helps monitor and evaluate our implementation strategies but also to make decision should there be a variance or change in the course of the project.

    I am Radia from Algeria and I am glad to be part of this program.
    As for data analysis, the company I have just left developed a whole department that works on the analysis of data in terms of sales, purchases in order to improve the commercial strategy of the company in terms of retail and wholesale.
    Personally, I wish I had access to the field in terms of human resources. It could have made the recruitment more effective and decrease thus the important turnover of the company.

  • Hi,
    My organisation does different surveys which bring various data. Some data are analuzed by our team of DME staff but we don't have data analist to make it perfect.
    I would appreciate to learn those skills so that I use them in my organization.

    Thank you

    yes our welfare development works with Data Analysts, we have per systems; their tasks are to enter data, clean data, analyze, reporting, search, documentation, and they are used for monitoring.
    Datas are important helped us analyze the compliance of households in education , health . we also use these data in addressing the gaps.

    It is a brilliant initiative and I certainly look forward to it.
    Presently we do not have a defined data analyst position, but I am the one who handles it as a researcher and faculty. Since we are associated in the teacher training and school education stream, I look at the data generated from student tracking, formative and summative assessments, teacher appraisals etc.

    The most helpful skill, I wish to learn would be designing tools for qualitative and quantitative research that would most effectively capture data to guide us through our programmes, help us redesign programmes if needed and make key decisions, partnerships and investments.

    Data science gives my management and leadership team a picture of our annual performance, performance over the years, it has helped us rethink strategies re-work our monitoring mechanism.

  • for my organization partners are responsible for data entry ,m&e is responsible for data cleaning ,analysis and visualization.

    For me what will be most helpful i dtat science will be skills in data collection,and management, presentation and interpretation, and then visualization. Also there is the need to developing a tool for easy data collection and interpretation.
    Data science has been helpful in that it reduces the quantity of literature that needs to be written for a particular report and helps partners and stakeholders to at a glance appreciate the state of the organization. Also from the data science, it is easy to see if the indicators are there for a quick project evaluation and meeting of objectives.

    Data science has become one of the most important domains in our life,I would like to learn it and improve my skills.

    Hi, I'm eager to gain more experience about data science because it has become more important in our day to day monitoring and evaluation of programs.

  • Hi In our organization we collect data in the form of statistics butIi don't know whether the numerical data is really valued in decision making so I think incorporating data science as course would be helpful.

  • Data science is a multi-disciplinary field that uses scientific methods, processes, algorithms and systems to extract knowledge and insights from structured and unstructured data. Data Science is good in the organization for monitoring and evaluation and also, for keeping records.

    I am learning how to use R as part of my programme curriculum. I am at the stage when it looks a little bit too abstract. I am looking forward to get an idea how data science works in real-life organisational setting as I believe it's a necessary complement of analytical tools.

  • Hi. I am working with a small group of youth dedicated to farming activities. We do not have an idea of a data analyst or data scientist. However, data analysis combined with effective monitoring and evaluation appears inevitable as we expand our production and market share. I believe data analysis such as statistical analysis would really help to make evidence-based decisions in future.

  • In before organization we were working with data from waters tests, we were implementing CBT Ecoli Water Quality test in province of Darien, very remote communities that use water directly from the rivers, also communities that is highly affected by its freshness.
    Data was collected manually by team in field and them analyzed per community ( demography info) to run educational project, prioritize according to need and impact, also to choose the communities that needed the water purifying systems the most. It helped on the planning lots.

  • Unfortunately,No,but am curious to learn and maybe implement it in our organization

  • No idea. But its one of the subject that I would like to get deep on it.

  • It is a welcome development if data science is offered here. My organization generates data on a daily basis which are managed by a team called the strategic information team. So, having the opportunity to study data science here would be a great opportunity.

    This would be an excellent initiative from the university. I work in an educational organization. We use data science to analyze students performance across subject and grade levels.

  • My organisation works with data but they are done manually. If we can have a process that will be automated, i think that would eradicate error on data collation.

    happy for that opportinuty to learn and perform in data science , statistical analysis , programming , wrangling and visualization;
    Our organization collects data in household economy to target beneficiairies who should be enrolled in an adaptative social protection project;
    fighting against poverty and vulnerability and to enhance communities resilience;
    econometric model (Proxy means testing) is used for that purpose and statistical analysis are done using stata (software);
    for my own purpose i hold some online courses on data science using R, i ready succeed achieving certificate in introduction to R; R basic, R data wrangling, R data visualization and R ....

  • Hi,
    This is great idea, I have been looking forward to this as it essential skill for my work as an M&E professional.

    At my Organisation SADO-Somalia, we use mobile platforms to collect baseline and endline data of beneficiaries as well other assessment datas to determine status of the beneficiaries (economic, dietary, social etc) in order to monitor progress as we implement our humanitarian initiatives. The data we collect also inform the programmes we design, so data collection, editing, auditing and analysis is an important aspect of our programming.

    I will appreciate the addition of data science component. Thanks

    Hi, I work for an organization that focuses on social innovation to eradicate poverty. It collects mainly cross-sectional data but less often, time series and panel data for analysis to develop a theory of change. Knowing how to collect, manage, analyse and interpret this kind of data will be super helpful.
