University Students Educating Chronically Ill Children
We are keen on and believe in life-long learning and continuous development. During the courses of Philanthropy University we learned the essentials of Nonprofit Strategy, apart from that we designed a long-term strategy, rethought the challenges we face and the way we aim to manage the boundaries of the organization in line with our vision and mission. Thanks to the courses wee took at Philantrophy University we understood the complexity and dynamics of the global world and developed a sustainable approach to manage Amigos in such an environment.
Amigos for Children is a non-profit organization consisting of university students who teach different languages and other academic subjects to children, which is motivating them to recover. An Amigo is a university student volunteering in hospitals, who not only teaches languages but also a lifelong friend.
In the last 3.5 years, we have already made more than 1800 chronically ill children smile in Hungary. We cheered them up, we taught 15 languages and also academic subjects.
Our team has grown from 10 to 80 volunteers, who all use their talents in different languages and subjects to help children who cannot attend school.
While we have made great progress, we do not want to stop here. There are approximately 110,000 children in Hungary who cannot go to school for a certain amount of time due to chronic illnesses. Our mission is to have an Amigo next to each one of these children in hospitals.
In the future we would like to develop Amigos with the courses of Philantrophy University. Also, we would use the unrestricted grant provided by Philanthrophy University to train our volunteers to have a wider and deeper outreach in hospitals, thus make more children smile and motivate them to get better faster.
