  • Hello my name is Leonita Aisi (as in the letters I and C)
I come from Papua New Guinea and have just done a TESOL certificate, and do Learning Support/Special needs Assistant with an IEA school.
My goal here is to make my dreams come big due to the struggles my community faces - I dream to create a Home/Shelter for the homeless and make it reality here in Port Moresby, one day at a time - as an Individual.
I'm equally excited to join people from diverse different cultures all in a team to benefit their Society
Here in my country, it is a real struggle EVERY SINGLE DAY - K100.00 lasts as far as 2 hours because costs are so high. I have taken part in small family fundraisers's and believe me, half of the expected income of the fundraisers any where, falls back to having it on Lay by (credit) .. I want to have better knowledge and skill in this ..so i can follow on for a good cause.
    Cheers to you all

    Hello everyone!
This is Israr Ahmad and joining from Kabul, Afghanistan.
I am currently working with one the telecom companies in capacity of Business Development Manager.
My goal by taking this course is to know the methodology, tricks and formal way of fundraising from different donors and organization since I am involved in donation activities since 2 years, and it is among small network of friends. After completion of this course, I am sure that I will have the idea on how to do fund raising and it will help me convince my colleagues, management and the stakeholders of the company to take part in fund raising.
Of course! I believe in teamwork since it is really impactful while generating ideas, making decisions and coming up with the solution for a specific issue.
I do not have the academic experience of this course but I have some practical experience of fund raising that I did in past 2 years. However, it is worth mentioning that I collected around 5,000 USD within a month for specific medical condition of a child having eyesight problem by using my personal network and the network of people whom I knew.

  • My name is Suzanne A. Johnson, and am joining from Liberia. I work at SMART Liberia, a social venture that equips aspiring young leaders with the skills, networks and opportunities needed to be change leaders. I work as the Fundraising and Development Associate. Through this course, I have a goal of acquiring the knowledge, skills and techniques needed to attract and retain donors as well as every other skills that are connected to fundraising. Team work is essential to my practice and as the saying goes: two heads is better than one.

Yes, I have had a little experience while performing my duties as a fundraiser. A part of my duties is having donors engaged. It's interesting and requires patience, involving reaching out to donors and been in touch with them. Most of the donors do not read their emails and those that read,do not respond. At times, I would have to call through the phone to get in contact with them. But again, they almost all the time busy. Fundraising is a beautiful thing that needs a lot of effort and team work.

    1. My name is Claudia, I'm Joining from London, UK but I'm originally from Chile.

    2. I have a Community Theatre Company called RootPrints Theatre. We have a social aim and I'm currently in charge of the finances, which include fundraising

    3. To refresh my previous knowledge about the subject and learn new things that will help me feel more comfortable returning to this role after some years not doing it. Also to feel more confident about fundraising in the UK as all my previous experience was in Chile and I can get very anxious when it comes to networking.

    4. I might be interested but also I have a very limited amount of time so might not be able to commit to working as part of a team fpr the course. Prefer to see first how well I can manage the time alone.

    1. I used to work as a theatre producer and part of my responsibilities included fundraising.

    Hi Claudia!
    Welcome!
I am a filmmaker, I live in LA and as far as I could see we are probably the only ones in the arts-culture section.
I don't have a team and I am also pretty busy. I think having someone to work with, that doesn't already know me, will be very helpful. However, just like you I am pretty busy so I would like to engage with someone friendly but effective. In case you're interested in forming a team for the assignment lmk.

My name is Stélio Bila, joining from Maputo city, Mozambique. I work in a civil society organization whose core business is integrity, transparency and anticorruption, as a monitoring and evaluation specialist and process analyst. among other things, I am responsible for stakeholders engagement and fundraising. I believe that the course will provide me with adequate tools for risk analysis in monitoring partnerships, help me to acquire the best approaches in establishing partnerships and retaining existing ones.
Due to my rhythm and routine of work perhaps it is not convenient to enter to some work /study team to not compromise the performance of the group.
The little experience I have in dealing with partners, including donors, is only practical, so I think the theoretical approach I can get here in this course it will be very interesting.

I am happy to vb here.

  • Hello fellow Philanthropists!

My name is Rebecca and I am logging on to learn from the Dominican Republic. Originally from Calgary, Canada I relocated here over 7 years ago. Mostly to escape the cold and be closer to the ocean but also to be able to focus on giving back.

I have volunteered with numerous organizations here, but currently focusing on the beginning stages of a new initiative called The Be Kind Project which focuses on bringing health and wellness clinics to small neighborhoods.

While visiting these villages we have noticed a huge need for dental and medical operations and certain medications such as parasite meds. We have had a decent amount of sponsors so far within our community, but I wish to learn how to bring funding in from across our borders as well. I also believe we both (my partner and I) have a handful of donors in our hands but are possibly not reaching them in the most effective way, so I hope to learn for the both of us how to effectively raise funds for our small projects with the hopes to be able reach a more global scale of awareness on how to Be Kind.

A team sounds interesting, but I dont believe my partner would be interested in this course. So if someone else wants to take me in please feel free to reach out.

My experience in giving back has been somewhat all over the place. I started learning about humanitarian work after dating someone here who had a large foundation based in Canada but operating here. He was a huge player and had many stories and strategies to learn. I spent a lot of time sitting back watching him do his thing which usually meant
fundraising large amounts, using gripping stories and tactics to attract donors of all denominations. He had a way of captivating an audience that I could only dream to be able to do one day. Since, I was living and breathing this new way of life in my home I knew I needed to also include this life outside so I started volunteering my time with a feeding program in a Haitian Batey (sugar plantation) I visited the village 3 times a week and helped cook and distribute meals to over 300 children. Sometimes this meal was the only meal they would enjoy that week. Obviously the more time I spent there the more involved I became in the lives of these people. I started seeing need for many other things, like education for the children, clothes, medicines, family education among many others and this is where my first fundraisers, my first campaigns and my first successes at planning and executing these things began. From that experience I knew this was my purpose, this was why I was here. If I couldn't leave a huge mark in someone's life, I would at least try to leave a little and since then I have been doing everything I can along the way to make an impact big or small every day.
Whether it be food drives, spay and neuter clinics, school fundraisers, clothes donations and drops, medical clinics, donating to crowd funds or just sharing some kindness along the way.

It's a beautiful thing this life and once you start its hard to stop, but now I need to focus on learning some real techniques and strategies to help further my experience in giving back.
